Default Protection Error: 89

Hello, I hope someone here can help me with this problem because I haven't
been able to find help anywhere else.
I have 2 new programs on my computer: Smileycons and Email Backup Guardian.
Both programs are by Cloudeight. I've never had any problems with their stuff
before but, these 2 programs will not open. When I click on their icons, I
get an error message saying: "Protection Error" in the title bar and "Error:
89" in the message window. Nothing else except for an 'OK' button.
I've contacted Cloudeight about this and they said they've never heard of
this error before but that it sounds like something is conflicting with the
programs.
I performed some selective boots with different combinations like no start
up programs or no win.ini and startup programs. In none of the combinations
would the 2 programs open. However, they both would open in SafeMode. Another
thing I'm not sure of is whether there's something in Autoexec.bat or
Config.sys because my pc would not let me test a boot without these 2. It
would not let me uncheck autoexec and I think it put a copy of config when I
unchecked it.
Why do the programs start in SafeMode but not in Normal Mode (even without
win.ini and startup programs)? Please help.
cgh
