Default reinstalling 98se

Hi all,
I hope I'm asking the right group.
I was trying to "clean sweep" some files for my Sound
Blaster Live! sound card(to upgrade) by following the
instructions from their tech support.
I was told to go to the Device Manager tab (My
Computer/Properties/) and remove any Creative or Sound
Blaster listing under "Sound, Video, and Game
Controllers", and I mistakenly deleted some other listings
too.
I want to get those listings back, but don't have
a "recovery" function on my PC.
I think reinstalling 98se might be the solution.
Is this the solution? If so, how do I go about
reinstalling 98se? I have the original MS Windows 98se
disk.
thanks in advance, Cliff

Those are just registry entries so if you can meet the 5-day test below,
restoring a copy of the registry will fix it. If not, you must provide full
details about what you deleted and what you want back. I kind of doubt that
installing W98 will fix the problem.

If this problem is less than five days old, restore a copy of the registry
that predates the onset of the problem and see if that helps. The five-day
limit assumes that the computer is booted every day. If it is not booted
every day, you may have an old enough registry backup that you can use even
though more than five days have elapsed. Any registry changes made after
the date of the restored registry will be lost.

On the Start Menu, select Shut Down and Restart in MSDOS Mode. At the
Windows prompt, type: scanreg /restore and hit enter. Once the
registry restore screen appears, select the date of the registry that you
wish to restore by highlighting it and then click enter. If you see a
registry named: Rbbad.cab, that is a copy of the registry that has already
been replaced.
