Scan Registry, IST Service, Welcome, AolAcsDaemon1 and
America Online 9.0 Tray Icon are files
shown to be active on the Startup tab on Msconfig
Utility. By their name, most can be thought of what
they may be about, but I haven't the slightest idea of
what IST Service is or what its purpose might be.
This File is present with Windows98 or Windows98SE.
I am currently using Windows98SE.
AolAcsDaemon1 is also confusing.
Presumably, the System Resources could be increased if it
were possible to deactivate some or all.
Can anyone give me some insight of what I am dealing with?
Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your response, Alan.

Some time back I installed Norton's 2003 SystemWorks
Professional Edition, but later uninstalled mostly because
of its demand on the System Resources and the difficulties
of removing it, or portions of it, entirely from the
Registry. Symantec was heavily involved with it. I have
pages and pages of instructions from Symantec of how to
uninstall Norton manually. I assume ISTC is part of
Norton. Now, I still do not know if I can remove it or
disable it.
Anyway.....I can live with those entries, as my
Resources , at the start, are at 92%.

Thank you, again.

We must be talking a different language, so please excuse any
misunderstanding.

Why do you assume ist bar is a part of Norton?
The reference I supplied does not indicate that.
All I can see is that it is a parasite.

Sorry about misleading you!
The line that reminded me of the experience with Norton
was:

ist service
Symantec Security Response - Adware.Istbar
http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.istbar.html

I can see that you might have been trying to say something
else. The word Symantec was the culprit.
I will go try that site and see what it might have to say.
Thanks and sorry, again!
