As Rick said, you need to *run* the file you downloaded on a windows PC to
create the boot disk (use the OEM Win ME boot disk program - instructions
below).
You should also change the second and third boot devices - preferably to the
CD and HD, so that your boot order is Floppy, CD, HD. Then if all else
fails, your system should be ready to accept the Recovery disk.

Insert a formatted floppy disk, run the program, and when it's finished,
shut down the PC, then restart it with the floppy in the drive.
Once that's done, and working, you can remove the disk, and boot back to
Windows and let us knowg (use CTRL+ALT+DEL, or the reset button to reboot)

Then go here, and see if you can follow the directions to use System Restore
to repair the system - it's worth a shot, and will save a lot of effort if
it works.
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=279736
The instructions look a lot more complex than they are - just print them out
and take them one step at a time.

Good Luck

I am so glad that I decided to have a go at this. I have done it, the winme
is up and running. I altered the booting sequence to second boot cdrom and
third boot HDD. Put the restore cd in and away it went. It is now back to
normal, even the memory is back up to 18GB. Thank you all very much for your
time and efforts. I have learned more now about the computer. I have a
computer in the attic that is win 95, that I gave up on years ago, I feel now
that I could try again with it, then at least I could sell it.
I have hit another problem now, I can't find the first disk for his
worksuite for microsoft, I have all the other 7 but the first one is missing.
I have turned his bedroom upside down and can't find it. It legally belongs
to him, so is there any way of getting it. I haven't got it on this computer
or I could lend him mine.

I have actually got him to bring the game in and guess what after all this
the game won't play, although it is a win me. his processor is 650 and it
needs 733 to run. Also it needs at least 256 MB and there is only 64mb on
there. The latter is bugging me as it says...

total physical memory is 63.44

Available physical memory 108 KB

Total virtual memory 2GB

Available virtual memory 1.89GB

Page file space 1.94 GB,

isn't there a way of moving all this memory so that you can have it in the
physical memory. Also hould these values be this high for the age of the
computer.
How many MB in a GB, I can never remember if it is 100 or 1000
My own computer is Winxp home but my total virtual memory is only 873mb, I
would have though it would have been smaller than this, considering it is an
older computer than mine.
Anyway any suggestions for swapping this memory over.

As Rick said, you need to *run* the file you downloaded on a

windows
PC to
create the boot disk (use the OEM Win ME boot disk program -
instructions
below).
You should also change the second and third boot devices -

preferably
to
the
CD and HD, so that your boot order is Floppy, CD, HD. Then if all

else
fails, your system should be ready to accept the Recovery disk.

Insert a formatted floppy disk, run the program, and when it's
finished,
shut down the PC, then restart it with the floppy in the drive.
Once that's done, and working, you can remove the disk, and boot

back
to
Windows and let us knowg (use CTRL+ALT+DEL, or the reset button

to
reboot)

Then go here, and see if you can follow the directions to use

System
Restore
to repair the system - it's worth a shot, and will save a lot of
effort if
it works.

The instructions look a lot more complex than they are - just

print
them
out
and take them one step at a time.

The 'Physical memory' is TOTALLY limit6ed by the RAM sticks installed on the
PC - the only way to expand that is to purchase extra RAM sticks.

Adjustments can be made to the Virtual Memory - but they wouldn't do you any
good in this instance.
There are 1024 MB in a GB - and you would need to (probably) purchase a new
stick of RAM of 356MB alone, or two of 128MB to get the game to work (ME
doesn't appreciate having mixed-size RAM sticks installed, much)

The default Virtual Memory setting for Win9x system is 2GB
The default for Win NT systems (of which Win XP is one) is a maximum of 2.5
times the Physical RAM - which explains your setting (you have 384MB RAM
installed? - take away the 32MB your Video card may be using, and multiply
by 2.5, and you get around that number).
No-one has yet explained to me (to my satisfaction) why XP is limited in
this way - it goes against all rational logic - so you'll have to look
elsewhere for an explanation for that.
