Off Topic: Wireless Router Installation
I realize that this is not related ti WinMe but I dont know where else to
ask about this at this point (I have tried a hardware forum without any luck). If any of the kind folks here can help or let me know where I can get an answer to this, I would appreciate it. ==================================== Trying to install a wireless router (Linksys) to my PC so that I can use my laptop to access the internet also. I have a broadband cable connection. The router instructions seem to indicate that I need to connect the modem and router via an ethernet connection. This is done - no problems. Also indicated in the instructions is that an ethernet connection also needs to be made from the router back to the main PC. Is this the case? Do I really need this second connection? If so, can I just get any ethernet card (I dont currently have an ethernet connection in the main PC), install it and plug in, or is it more complicated than this? My laptop supposedly already has a wireless card that is ready to go once the router is hooked up. I guess the question is - In my case, is the only connection required the ethernet connection between the modem and router or are there additional connections required? The main PC is connected to the cable mode via usb connection only right now. Does the PC-Modem usb connection need to be eliminated and a new connection (Router - PC via ethernet) absolutely need to be established? The help/instructions included with the router are not clear on this. Thanks in advance for your help. Keith |

A second good support is our own MS ....Windowsme.networking ng, where
wireless is a common topic. The Linksys site has excellent setup instructions, as do most of the major vendors, eg., Belkin, Netgear, D-Link, etc. -- Jack E.
