Default add a TCP/IP printing port with winME

Hello,

I'am triing to connect a network printer to a PC running Win ME.

I don't see the option to add a TCP/IP port, just after adding the printer
on the local port.
I did it successfully with Win 98 ans XP.
My netcard has the TCP/IP and IPX/SPX protocol installed

I hoped to get the option add TCP/IP port after the add of the IPX protocol,
but no.

I ping the printer IP , no problem I see the printer.
The printer works well with other PCs on the intranet w95, w98, w2000, wXP,
except wME

Another point, I can't see the printer icon among the PCs icons of the net,
explorer-network-all the net

Have you any ideas how to add a TCP/IP printing port with winME ? Why can't
I get this choice into the procedure ?

I read that a TCP/IP port adding could be linked with DLC protocole. But I
can't find any information concerning this protocol and how to add it.

Thank you for helping

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your answer.
I use the word Printer but it is correct . It's a copier NRG 3238. A huge
thing that copy, fax, scan and print also Postscript. They call that a Total
Document Solutions.
Their site is pretty well documented, except for the installation under Win
ME.
Anyway, now I know what to ask to the support. I am sure to get the good
answer thanks to your precisions.

Regrettably Win Me contains no built-in networking printing client. If
the printer is an HP printer then look on the HP site where you may find
the necessary client (I run an HP4550 colour LaserJet off a JetDirect box
on my LAN). Otherwise you will need to look on www.download.com or Google
for a suitable client such as perhaps the Intelliscribe LPR Print Client
(http://download.com.com/3000-2088-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1).

Hi everyboby

I fix the problem. An additionnal soft declare the tcp/ip port with the righ
IP.
I can't see the lan icon printer, but it work fine.
The additionnal soft is SmartDeviceMonitor, a proprietary specific soft for
NRG printer.
