TuneUp Utilities
I recently downloaded and installed TuneUp Utilities2006 I have a question
and a problem. Are these softwares really effective?Do they really speed up computer performance by 300% as they claim? When I ran the software,it found that my registry is highly fragmented, however it could not rectify this problem as it could not find"SCANREGW" I think this is a Win.98 application.Where can I download it?Should I go thru the trouble?(of downloading scanregw and defragmenting my registry)I have installed Scandefrag as suggested by an expert in this group. jvc |

TuneUp Utilities
I have no knowledge of "TuneUp Utilities2006" however in answer to your
question: "Do they really speed up computer performance by 300% as they claim?" I suspect their copywriter lives in a fantasy world and previously worked for one of those internet spam companies selling sex aids. SCANREGW is part of Win Me and is located in the Windows folder. Scanregw is the Windows version of the DOS scanreg and is the Registry Checker Tool. For details of scanreg/scanregw and the various switches that can be used with this tool see MS KB 184023 - "Command-Line Switches for the Registry Checker Tool" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=184023). -- Mike Maltby Dr.J.V.Chhaya wrote: I recently downloaded and installed TuneUp Utilities2006 I have a question and a problem. Scanregw.exe is contained in Precopy1.CAB of the Win Me cab set. This cab
file can be found in either the Win9x folder on a Win Me CD or in either the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs or Windows\Options\Install folder. Double click on the cab file, select scanregw.exe and drag a copy to your windows folder. -- Mike Maltby Dr.J.V.Chhaya wrote: Thanks Mike.Iam aware of scanreg.I used it as per Noel Paton's instructions during IE uninstall. No scanreg'W' in my Windows folder. Can I get it from somewhere? |

TuneUp Utilities:feedback
My Dear Mike,
I dragged scanregw to my Windows folder from the Cab.file.Registry defrag completed successfully.Believe it or not, there is a perceptible improvement in speed. So these softwares do work. Noel Paton,"Oops",MikeM,I thank you all for being there. jvc "jvc" wrote in message ... Thanks Mike. jvc "Mike M" wrote in message ... Scanregw.exe is contained in Precopy1.CAB of the Win Me cab set. Mike gets the credit - I was about to respond to your off-group email when I
thought 'maybe Mike has a better response'!! You may be seeing a quicker response to your commands simply because you've run SCANREG and rebuilt the registry without all the dross within it - simply putting SCANREGW where it belongs is extremely unlikely to have changed anything significant. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "jvc" wrote in message ...
