Default Installing a USB Card

Greetings !

I have been given an old WIN 98 computer, which comes with hard disk, CD
reader and floppy drive, but NO USB port.

I have a Belkin USB card, which I have now installed. I have used the CD
that came with the USB Card, but it still asked for drivers.

So I fetched the drivers off the Internet, one by one as it asked for them -
but NOW when I boot up, it runs through the installation procedure, but THEN
I get the dreaded Blue Screen of Death, with the message
"... Fatal Exception OE ... 0028:C029EC3A in VXD NTKERN (08) + 00007DFA..."

It's Win '98 2nd Edition, 4.10.222 A

Help !

Regards

Robin

Boot to safe mode then uninstall the device.

check to see if the drivers are for win98 or win98se

if your machine only has win98...you might need to upgrade to win98se to get
good USB support

The point is that Win98 supported USB version 1 but
USB version 2 then appeared (much faster) --- so only
Win98SE offered USB.2 support. New USB devices (e.g.
flashdrives) are all built for USB.2. Some PCs with
USB.1 can use them (but slowly) but you can never
be sure of this.

It appears the other posters missed that the PC already has W98SE. I
recommend that you talk with Belkin since their hardware/drivers appear to
be causing the problem. I also find it very strange that they provided a CD
that presumably has the drivers needed for installing the card yet you found
it necessary to download drivers. That does not make sense and you ought to
ask about that also.

Fatal exception errors are a bear to solve--see this article:

What chipset ? Run Sandra, put all details listed here.

| Fatal Exception OE ... 0028:C029EC3A in VXD NTKERN
1 USB v2 card I bought with VIA chip worked fine on
VIA kt266a, but not on SiS530 chipset. Sandra says both have
PCI v2.1 .
