Default Updates

I am trying to help a friend get her PC running properly
again... part of which is to use windows update.

It seems that it is unable to complete an update (when
rebooting) as it can not find a particular file to
update - or so it says on the DOS screen when booting.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can find out what file
this is? Or maybe how to clear or uninstall that update?

Many Thanks
Gary

Which file is it reporting to be missing ? Try temporarily disabling
the antivirus program installed prior to accessing WU.
Also, have a look at this MSKB article :
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319585

Do all of the steps for Win ME .
NOTE: The Windows Update software controls are in the
WINDOWS\System folder. Also, navigate to the WINDOWS\Downloaded
Program Files folder, right click UpdateClass, and choose Remove.
