I see that Hugh has given you the pertinent OE instructions. As for your
MSINFO32 list, most likely someone is going to take that on before I can get
to it. It's been a long day and it's got hours to go -- *after* I take a
nap!

I'll come back later and see how it's going.

I don't know what to say. I am just getting back into my OE account, I
hope. Have read all the replies Firstly, am pleased to see that someone
else saw the stupid date. The separators in my dates were periods, not
slashes, and the date layout was different. Have been trying to change my
display name. Could not find place for changing it under the General tab.
Was not there. Have manually replaced (cut) name and retyped. Hope it
works. Here is my system post:

Please overlook the last question. Change seems to have stayed. Instructions
were good but had to clear a selection for logging on using Secure Password
Authentication, or something like that. Will now try to wait patiently for
you guys (and girls?). Thank all of you!

Mary,

You're still using your real email address. Read what Hugh suggested again.
You really want to do that.

Mary, this isn't the correct list. This is the running processes list. Let's
try again. (I "snipped" your list so that the following posts don't get
overly long.)

Run MSCONFIG. Choose Normal Startup and click Apply. (If you click OK, DO
NOT restart.) Then run MSINFO32.

Expand (click on plus sign by) "Software Environment".

Click on "Startup Programs". You should see information that looks much like
that you see in MSCONFIG's Startup tab, except these ones have additional
notations like "Per-User", and "Machine Run", "Machine Service", and a
couple of others, maybe.

Click anywhere in the right-hand pane, then press Ctrl-A, to Select All.
Everything in that right-hand pane should become highlighted.

Click Ctrl-C, to Copy the highlighted info.

Open a Reply Group to this message. Press Ctrl-V to Paste in the info. Add
your Disabled Items List -- you can copy it from your previous message in
the Sent Items folder.

Close MSINFO32, then disable the items on your Disabled Items List in
MSCONFIG again. Click OK. No need to reboot when prompted.

My own apologies to you, Mary. Below is your "Disabled" list from the
previous post, (along with my comments.) Notice how the notations "Machine
Run" and "Machine Service" appear there, also? You must have copied the list
below from MSINFO32. Notice, too, now much longer it is, how many more items
there are? I just noticed this myself. My mistake, I didn't read your
previous post all the way through. I'm thinking that the above list is only
currently enabled items, that it doesn't include the disabled ones? And that
the below list is the entire list that you get when everything in MSCONFIG
is enabled? Maybe the Xes at the beginning of many of them were your way of
denoting disabled items? Anyway, I'm going to ignore the above list and
comment below, since everything up there appears down below as well. Sorry I
didn't see this sooner.

xCal reminder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works

Share\wkcalrem.exe

Works Calendar Reminder -- Parts of Works program. You haven't yet cleared
the air on this topic: Do you or do you not have Works currently installed?
By the way, this one doesn't look like it came from the MSINFO32 list,
though there's an identical one below that *does* appear to have come from
MSINFO32.

xrun= hpfsched

Supports HP printer or scanner or Multi-Function device, perhaps other HP
devices. Do you have such a thing? What brand is your computer? Your
printer? Your scanner?

xMicrosoft Works Calendar Reminders Startup Group "C:\Program Files\Common

Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared \wkcalrem.exe"

Same exact entry as the first one, except this one looks like it really came
from the MSINFO32 list, since it has the notation that tells us where the
command resides (it's a shortcut in the Start\Programs\Startup folder.) Even
if you
have Works installed, there should only be one of these.

XMoneyAgent Registry (Per-User Run) "C:\Program Files\Microsoft

Money\System\Money Express.exe"

Part of MS Money. If you don't use MS Money, you should uninstall it. (But
before doing *anything*, finish reading this post and wait for further
instructions on how to uninstall things, OK?)

xTaskbar Display Controls Registry (Per-User Run) RunDLL

deskcp16.dll,QUICKRES_RUNDLLENTRY

This one is to put an icon in the System Tray (next to the clock) where you
can quickly change the screen resolution. This command should be deleted if
you aren't in the habit of frequently changing display resolution. Again,
wait until the analysis is complete before actually doing anything. We'll
lay out a series of procedures for you to follow when the time comes.

xMicrosoft Works Update Detection Registry (Per-User Run) \WkDetect.exe

More Works.

MCUpdateExe Registry (Machine Run)

C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\AGENT\MCUPDATE.EXE
MCAgentExe Registry (Machine Run) C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\AGENT\mcagent.exe
VsecomrEXE Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\Network

Associates\McAfee VirusScan\VSEcomR.EXE
VsStatEXE Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\Network

Associates\McAfee VirusScan\VSSTAT.EXE /SHOWWARNING

All four of the above are from McAfee Antivirus. Is it up to date? Can you
figure out what version it is for us? You can usually find that info in
HelpAbout. Regardless, McAfee AV may be bogging down and even messing up
your system. There are other, better solutions out there, in my opinion,
free ones like AVG and AVAST, or paid ones like ETrust. I use ETrust. You
can get the first year free by going he
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft

But remember, don't do anything yet. If you decide to change antivirus
applications, the first
trick may be to get McAfee to uninstall properly.

TaskMonitor Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\taskmon.exe

This is the one that creates all those logs in the APPLOG folder. If you
decide you
don't need Defrag to Optimize your files, then this one can be gotten rid
of.

SystemTray Registry (Machine Run) SysTray.Exe

The Tray is that box at the far right of the TaskBar, where the clock
resides. A few of the icons that get placed there, like the Volume Control,
for example, need for SysTray to load. You should leave it enabled.

VSOCheckTask Registry (Machine Run)

"C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\MCMNHDLR.EXE" /checktask
VirusScan Online Registry (Machine Run)

"C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\mcvsshld.exe"

More McAfee.

Gnetmous Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\COMPAQ\Scroll

Mouse\gnetmous.exe

Supports your mouse and may or may not be necessary, depending on whether
you need extra customizations for the mouse beyond the basics
(reprogrammable buttons, for instance.) Normally, I do not install such
software, but sometimes it's necessary. The only way to know is to run for a
while with it disabled and see if you notice any difference.

Motive SmartBridge Registry (Machine Run)

C:\PROGRA~1\VERIZO~1\SMARTB~1\MotiveSB.exe

Looks like a mechanism used by your ISP (Verizon, right?) that assists with
their internet support. Not usually necessary. I'd delete this command, but
I think perhaps you should leave it -- unless we discover that it truly is
causing problems. Note that deleting a Startup command isn't the same thing
as Uninstalling the program. Deleting the command just stops it from loading
at Startup and from appearing as a disabled item in MSCONFIG (ideally,
during normal running, MSCONFIG should be set to Normal Startup, with
nothing disabled.)

CriticalUpdate Registry (Machine Run)

c:\windows\SYSTEM\wucrtupd.exe -startup

Leave this one unless we discover that it's causing problems. It's a
Scheduled Tasks that checks every so often to see if you're connected to the
internet, and if you are, it checks for new Critical Updates from Windows
Updates. Now, what's weird about this one is that you don't have any Startup
command for Task Scheduler. If Critical Updates Notification is to work,
Task Scheduler needs to be running.

MPFExe Registry (Machine Run) C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\PERSON~1\MPFTRAY.EXE

More McAfee.

hpsysdrv Registry (Machine Run) c:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe

So, I see now that you probably have an HP or Compaq computer. There's a bit
of confusion out there about what this one does for certain, enough so that
I would recommend that you leave it enabled.

OEMCleanup Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\OEMRESET.EXE

This is an "idiot-proofing" tools put there by the manufacturer to reset
certain things at startup. Not something I would want running. Mostly
intended for people who are first learning about their computer, according
to the literature.

HPScanPatch Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\HPScanFix.exe

Just what it looks like, this makes sure a certain Registry entry or entries
don't get changed and mess up the use of your scanner.

xStillImageMonitor Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STIMON.EXE

Common scanner support application. Listens for signals from the scanner
when you use buttons on the scanner itself to initiate and configure scans.
If you always use a computer program to initiate and configure the scanner,
you don't usually need to run this (but sometimes you do.) Most people leave
it in place.

xAdaptec DirectCD Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program

Files\DirectCD\DIRECTCD.EXE

This is part of the Roxio CD burning program. What it does is allow Windows
to treat a specially formatted, burnable CD or CDRW as a regular volume,
where you can write and read just as if it were another local drive. Nice
idea,
but these CDs will often not be readable on other systems, and the whole
arrangement is known to cause lots of problem in lots of machines. I would
uninstall the DirectCD portion of your Roxio Suite and burn CDs in a more
conventional manner. If, for some reason, this function is needed for your
particular setup, then tests should be done to make sure it's not messing up
anything else.

xUSBMMKBD Registry (Machine Run) usbmmkbd.exe

Supports your USB Multi-Media keyboard. Mostly, it provides support for all
the "extra" keys on your keyboard, the ones that can put the system to
sleep, or launch Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, etc. Even when I
use a multi-media keyboard, I don't use those keys, so I always get rid of
this. But the safer option is to leave it in place.

xLoadQM Registry (Machine Run) loadqm.exe

Part of MSN, either MSN Explorer or MSN Messenger. Not necessary, but it's
one of those optional things that some people like. What it does is permit
"drizzling" of updates in the background. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=309418

xTkBellExe Registry (Machine Run) "C:\Program Files\Common

Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Similar to LoadQM, but part of your Real Player installation. This is one
I'd get rid of. I usually get rid of LoadQM, too, but I don't think it's
quite as bad as TkBellExe.

xLoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Run) Rundll32.exe

powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme

This loads your Power Savings schemes and is necessary. In fact, there
should be two of these, one as Machine Run and one as Machine Service. Leave
both enabled. They cause no problems that I've ever heard of -- except when
they are disabled.

xMicrosoft Works Update Detection Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program

Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe

More Works.

xMcVsRte Registry (Machine Service) C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\mcvsrte.exe

/embedding

More McAfee.

xEncompass_ENCMONTR Registry (Machine Service) C:\Program Files\Easy

Internet\ENCMONTR.EXE

This is something that probably got installed as part of an ISP's setup. In
almost ALL cases, you shouldn't install ISP software. They always seem bent
on messing things up in the name of making things easier. It is something
I'd uninstall.

xHidserv Registry (Machine Service) Hidserv.exe run

More support for keyboard, or possibly audio devices. I'd leave it enabled.

xKB891711 Registry (Machine Service)

c:\windows\SYSTEM\KB891711\KB891711.EXE

This is a recent Critical Update from Microsoft and should be left enabled.
There was a problem with it early on, but that got fixed, and it looks like
you have the right one.

xLoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Service) Rundll32.exe

powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme

As noted above, this one should usually stay enabled. The exceptions are
when trouble-shooting or when setting up a "clean boot" for maintenance,
etc.

xKeyboard Manager Registry (Machine Service) C:\Program

Files\Netropa\One-touch Multimedia Keyboard \MMKeybd.exe

Yet another multi-media keyboard support utility, this one for a Netropa
keyboard. I suggest you uninstall all keyboard support programs and then, if
you're sure you need such support for your keyboard, determine which program
is the correct and most up to date for your current keyboard and then
install that.

Am beginning to get problems: Scanner won't power off now when I'm using
computer. Printer is acting up. Hope I haven't overwritten any driver
updates.

You may have. Back when you ran VCM and SFC, did you actually replace any
files?

Lots of questions, I know. Take it slow and try to answer every one of my
questions above. Once we get a better picture of the situation, we can
provide suggestions for what to do to fix up your system. You can also, even
before doing anything else, review the two articles I've referred you to on
Clean Boot and Security. Follow through on those suggestions, clean up your
system, and report back on the questions, OK?

All four of the above are from McAfee Antivirus. Is it up to date? Can you
figure out what version it is for us? You can usually find that info in
HelpAbout. Regardless, McAfee AV may be bogging down and even messing up
your system. There are other, better solutions out there, in my opinion,
free ones like AVG and AVAST, or paid ones like ETrust. I use ETrust. You
can get the first year free by going he
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft

But remember, don't do anything yet. If you decide to change antivirus
applications, the first
trick may be to get McAfee to uninstall properly.

TaskMonitor Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\taskmon.exe

This is the one that creates all those logs in the APPLOG folder. If you
decide you
don't need Defrag to Optimize your files, then this one can be gotten rid
of.

SystemTray Registry (Machine Run) SysTray.Exe

The Tray is that box at the far right of the TaskBar, where the clock
resides. A few of the icons that get placed there, like the Volume

Control,
for example, need for SysTray to load. You should leave it enabled.

VSOCheckTask Registry (Machine Run)

"C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\MCMNHDLR.EXE" /checktask
VirusScan Online Registry (Machine Run)

"C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\mcvsshld.exe"

More McAfee.

Gnetmous Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\COMPAQ\Scroll

Mouse\gnetmous.exe

Supports your mouse and may or may not be necessary, depending on whether
you need extra customizations for the mouse beyond the basics
(reprogrammable buttons, for instance.) Normally, I do not install such
software, but sometimes it's necessary. The only way to know is to run for

a
while with it disabled and see if you notice any difference.

Motive SmartBridge Registry (Machine Run)

C:\PROGRA~1\VERIZO~1\SMARTB~1\MotiveSB.exe

Looks like a mechanism used by your ISP (Verizon, right?) that assists

with
their internet support. Not usually necessary. I'd delete this command,

but
I think perhaps you should leave it -- unless we discover that it truly is
causing problems. Note that deleting a Startup command isn't the same

thing
as Uninstalling the program. Deleting the command just stops it from

loading
at Startup and from appearing as a disabled item in MSCONFIG (ideally,
during normal running, MSCONFIG should be set to Normal Startup, with
nothing disabled.)

CriticalUpdate Registry (Machine Run)

c:\windows\SYSTEM\wucrtupd.exe -startup

Leave this one unless we discover that it's causing problems. It's a
Scheduled Tasks that checks every so often to see if you're connected to

the
internet, and if you are, it checks for new Critical Updates from Windows
Updates. Now, what's weird about this one is that you don't have any

Startup
command for Task Scheduler. If Critical Updates Notification is to work,
Task Scheduler needs to be running.

MPFExe Registry (Machine Run)

C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\PERSON~1\MPFTRAY.EXE

More McAfee.

hpsysdrv Registry (Machine Run) c:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe

So, I see now that you probably have an HP or Compaq computer. There's a

bit
of confusion out there about what this one does for certain, enough so

that
I would recommend that you leave it enabled.

OEMCleanup Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\OEMRESET.EXE

This is an "idiot-proofing" tools put there by the manufacturer to reset
certain things at startup. Not something I would want running. Mostly
intended for people who are first learning about their computer, according
to the literature.

HPScanPatch Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\HPScanFix.exe

Just what it looks like, this makes sure a certain Registry entry or

entries
don't get changed and mess up the use of your scanner.

xStillImageMonitor Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STIMON.EXE

Common scanner support application. Listens for signals from the scanner
when you use buttons on the scanner itself to initiate and configure

scans.
If you always use a computer program to initiate and configure the

scanner,
you don't usually need to run this (but sometimes you do.) Most people

leave
it in place.

xAdaptec DirectCD Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program

Files\DirectCD\DIRECTCD.EXE

This is part of the Roxio CD burning program. What it does is allow

Windows
to treat a specially formatted, burnable CD or CDRW as a regular volume,
where you can write and read just as if it were another local drive. Nice
idea,
but these CDs will often not be readable on other systems, and the whole
arrangement is known to cause lots of problem in lots of machines. I would
uninstall the DirectCD portion of your Roxio Suite and burn CDs in a more
conventional manner. If, for some reason, this function is needed for your
particular setup, then tests should be done to make sure it's not messing

up
anything else.

xUSBMMKBD Registry (Machine Run) usbmmkbd.exe

Supports your USB Multi-Media keyboard. Mostly, it provides support for

all
the "extra" keys on your keyboard, the ones that can put the system to
sleep, or launch Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, etc. Even when I
use a multi-media keyboard, I don't use those keys, so I always get rid of
this. But the safer option is to leave it in place.

xLoadQM Registry (Machine Run) loadqm.exe

Part of MSN, either MSN Explorer or MSN Messenger. Not necessary, but it's
one of those optional things that some people like. What it does is permit
"drizzling" of updates in the background. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=309418

xTkBellExe Registry (Machine Run) "C:\Program Files\Common

Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Similar to LoadQM, but part of your Real Player installation. This is one
I'd get rid of. I usually get rid of LoadQM, too, but I don't think it's
quite as bad as TkBellExe.

xLoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Run) Rundll32.exe

powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme

This loads your Power Savings schemes and is necessary. In fact, there
should be two of these, one as Machine Run and one as Machine Service.

Leave
both enabled. They cause no problems that I've ever heard of -- except

when
they are disabled.

xMicrosoft Works Update Detection Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program

Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe

More Works.

xMcVsRte Registry (Machine Service)

C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\mcvsrte.exe
/embedding

More McAfee.

xEncompass_ENCMONTR Registry (Machine Service) C:\Program Files\Easy

Internet\ENCMONTR.EXE

This is something that probably got installed as part of an ISP's setup.

In
almost ALL cases, you shouldn't install ISP software. They always seem

bent
on messing things up in the name of making things easier. It is something
I'd uninstall.

xHidserv Registry (Machine Service) Hidserv.exe run

More support for keyboard, or possibly audio devices. I'd leave it

enabled.

xKB891711 Registry (Machine Service)

c:\windows\SYSTEM\KB891711\KB891711.EXE

This is a recent Critical Update from Microsoft and should be left

enabled.
There was a problem with it early on, but that got fixed, and it looks

like
you have the right one.

xLoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Service) Rundll32.exe

powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme

As noted above, this one should usually stay enabled. The exceptions are
when trouble-shooting or when setting up a "clean boot" for maintenance,
etc.

xKeyboard Manager Registry (Machine Service) C:\Program

Files\Netropa\One-touch Multimedia Keyboard \MMKeybd.exe

Yet another multi-media keyboard support utility, this one for a Netropa
keyboard. I suggest you uninstall all keyboard support programs and then,

if
you're sure you need such support for your keyboard, determine which

program
is the correct and most up to date for your current keyboard and then
install that.

You can also,

even
before doing anything else, review the two articles I've referred you to

on
Clean Boot and Security. Follow through on those suggestions, clean up

your
system, and report back on the questions, OK?

MY apologies, I have a 'memory leak' somewhere on my body. Had intended to
tell you about the x's. Yes the x's show which programs I configured not to
load at startup. Will send info in segments upon replies and inquiries.
Wordpad or something didn't send info as I intended, with separation. Hope
y'all can read it.

xCal reminder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works

Share\wkcalrem.exe

Works Calendar Reminder -- Parts of Works program. You haven't yet cleared
the air on this topic: Do you or do you not have Works currently installed?
By the way, this one doesn't look like it came from the MSINFO32 list,
though there's an identical one below that *does* appear to have come from
MSINFO32.
Didn't realize that Works Calendar is a seperate application, until now.

xrun= hpfsched

Supports HP printer or scanner or Multi-Function device, perhaps other HP
devices. Do you have such a thing? What brand is your computer? Your
printer? Your scanner?
Computer: HP Pavilion 8665c; Scanner: HP Scanjet 4470c(1200dpi/48-bit
color) with Scanjet xpa; Printer: HP Deskjet932c; Monitor was Nec(loved it)
17" monitor, but because of tonnage and bad back had to leave when I
relocated; now, have Gateway 17" I retrieved from garbage room in building;
Keyboard is not USB Scanjet is USB; ISP: Verizon with MSN6 and McAfee
Security Suite8 or9 bundled Westell VersaLink Model 327 modem provided. MSN
was problematic so I tried to uninstall and use Verizon's layout.
'Reinstalled' MSN's bells and whistles, I don't use The Messenger.

xMicrosoft Works Calendar Reminders Startup Group "C:\Program Files\Common

Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared \wkcalrem.exe"

Same exact entry as the first one, except this one looks like it really came
from the MSINFO32 list, since it has the notation that tells us where the
command resides (it's a shortcut in the Start\Programs\Startup folder.) Even
if you
have Works installed, there should only be one of these.
I used the Works 2000(not the suite, but has processor, spreadsheet, and
database) disk that came with the computer in attempting to reinstall
missing files, and finally in uninstalling whole program. Program had two
listings in Start/Programs listing before I returned to Internet. As i said
'my' Works is a resource hog, and didn't work well with other programs. The
other reasons for uninstalling it a The ruler option was grayed out; The
find option would only find one word out of a document that had many of the
same word; And the documents that I had saved as Word files later proved to
be inaccessible. I had planned to buy Word.

XMoneyAgent Registry (Per-User Run) "C:\Program Files\Microsoft

Money\System\Money Express.exe"

Part of MS Money. If you don't use MS Money, you should uninstall it. (But
before doing *anything*, finish reading this post and wait for further
instructions on how to uninstall things, OK?)
OK, I don't use Money.

xTaskbar Display Controls Registry (Per-User Run) RunDLL

deskcp16.dll,QUICKRES_RUNDLLENTRY

This one is to put an icon in the System Tray (next to the clock) where you
can quickly change the screen resolution. This command should be deleted if
you aren't in the habit of frequently changing display resolution. Again,
wait until the analysis is complete before actually doing anything. We'll
lay out a series of procedures for you to follow when the time comes.
Does this also control other icons, such as the Compact Mouse that I
installed. It is an icon that is a mouse with animated eyes that follow or
locates the pointer for you. It was fun in the beginning but annoying
later. The Mouse has no ball under the bottom, but a red light that cuts
down on space needed and the cleaning of that infernal rubber ball. But, as
is my fate it is a resource hog. Probably the humonguos help file. And
possibly adware?

xMicrosoft Works Update Detection Registry (Per-User Run) \WkDetect.exe

More Works.
And, no updates for version after 4.5? Mine is 5.0 Though I've seen for
files for version6 on my computer.

But remember, don't do anything yet. If you decide to change antivirus

Computer came with McAfee VirusScan version 4 installed, in 2000. Files are
still in system I guess. Is one of those things I didn't want reinstalled.
Had bought version 5 or an update in 2000-01(on internet) I was a Net virgin
back then, but found out 4 did not recognize 5's modules, or something like
that. Lost: $29. Also purchased WinZip8.0(now have 9c update, hopefully)
Question?: Why didn't I lose Winzip when I recovered my hard drive with the
Recovery Disc--- I lost all the Windows updates. Did that in 2001, and got
off Internet after 8 months of hell. Am back April 13, 2005! With a
vengeance(I whispered that because the gremlins are still in there).

My own apologies to you, Mary. Below is your "Disabled" list from the
previous post, (along with my comments.) Notice how the notations "Machine
Run" and "Machine Service" appear there, also? You must have copied the

list
below from MSINFO32. Notice, too, now much longer it is, how many more

items
there are? I just noticed this myself. My mistake, I didn't read your
previous post all the way through. I'm thinking that the above list is

only
currently enabled items, that it doesn't include the disabled ones? And

that
the below list is the entire list that you get when everything in MSCONFIG
is enabled? Maybe the Xes at the beginning of many of them were your way

of
denoting disabled items? Anyway, I'm going to ignore the above list and
comment below, since everything up there appears down below as well. Sorry

I
didn't see this sooner.

Mary,

Just to let you know, today is going to be a busy one for me. Don't expect a
response from me until this evening, possibly very late this evening (and
I'm three hours west of you.)

You *still* haven't changed your email address to a fake one in this news
account. Keep that up and you'll be wanting a new email address soon, s.

xCal reminder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works

Share\wkcalrem.exe

Works Calendar Reminder -- Parts of Works program. You haven't yet cleared
the air on this topic: Do you or do you not have Works currently installed?
By the way, this one doesn't look like it came from the MSINFO32 list,
though there's an identical one below that *does* appear to have come from
MSINFO32.
Didn't realize that Works Calendar is a seperate application, until now.

xrun= hpfsched

Supports HP printer or scanner or Multi-Function device, perhaps other HP
devices. Do you have such a thing? What brand is your computer? Your
printer? Your scanner?
Computer: HP Pavilion 8665c; Scanner: HP Scanjet 4470c(1200dpi/48-bit
color) with Scanjet xpa; Printer: HP Deskjet932c; Monitor was Nec(loved it)
17" monitor, but because of tonnage and bad back had to leave when I
relocated; now, have Gateway 17" I retrieved from garbage room in building;
Keyboard is not USB Scanjet is USB; ISP: Verizon with MSN6 and McAfee
Security Suite8 or9 bundled Westell VersaLink Model 327 modem provided. MSN
was problematic so I tried to uninstall and use Verizon's layout.
'Reinstalled' MSN's bells and whistles, I don't use The Messenger anymore.

xMicrosoft Works Calendar Reminders Startup Group "C:\Program Files\Common

MCUpdateExe Registry (Machine Run)

C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\AGENT\MCUPDATE.EXE
MCAgentExe Registry (Machine Run) C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\AGENT\mcagent.exe
VsecomrEXE Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\Network

Associates\McAfee VirusScan\VSEcomR.EXE
VsStatEXE Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\Network

Associates\McAfee VirusScan\VSSTAT.EXE /SHOWWARNING

All four of the above are from McAfee Antivirus. Is it up to date? Can you
figure out what version it is for us? You can usually find that info in
HelpAbout. Regardless, McAfee AV may be bogging down and even messing up
your system. There are other, better solutions out there, in my opinion,
free ones like AVG and AVAST, or paid ones like ETrust. I use ETrust. You
can get the first year free by going he
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft

But remember, don't do anything yet. If you decide to change antivirus
applications, the first
trick may be to get McAfee to uninstall properly.

Does this included the Mouse icon too!?

VSOCheckTask Registry (Machine Run)

"C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\MCMNHDLR.EXE" /checktask
VirusScan Online Registry (Machine Run)

"C:\PROGRA~1\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\mcvsshld.exe"

More McAfee.

Gnetmous Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\COMPAQ\Scroll

Mouse\gnetmous.exe

Supports your mouse and may or may not be necessary, depending on whether
you need extra customizations for the mouse beyond the basics
(reprogrammable buttons, for instance.) Normally, I do not install such
software, but sometimes it's necessary. The only way to know is to run for a
while with it disabled and see if you notice any difference.
The Mouse again!

Motive SmartBridge Registry (Machine Run)

C:\PROGRA~1\VERIZO~1\SMARTB~1\MotiveSB.exe

Looks like a mechanism used by your ISP (Verizon, right?) that assists with
their internet support. Not usually necessary. I'd delete this command, but
I think perhaps you should leave it -- unless we discover that it truly is
causing problems. Note that deleting a Startup command isn't the same thing
as Uninstalling the program. Deleting the command just stops it from loading
at Startup and from appearing as a disabled item in MSCONFIG (ideally,
during normal running, MSCONFIG should be set to Normal Startup, with
nothing disabled.)
Verizon yes.

Have recurring Task Scheduler notice box that reads "Some tasks did not
execute at their scheduled times because the Task Scheduler Service was not
running. You can view the list of missed tasks, and attempt to run them
again, from within the Scheduled Tasks folder." I shut down the computer
completely so that I might copy the message, but the message box did not
reappear on bootup. Strange! I have icons in the System Tray for McAffee
and the Task Scheduler. When the message box first started appearing figured
it was because I pause TS and turn off the others when I defrag and install
whatever. On checking and running the TS I found it wasn't so. The box is
still popping up after nearly a month. I notice that it has only one exit
choice, OK option. The X is grayed out. Also, a couple of months ago the
McAfee icon indicated the program was off by turning black 'after' bootup.
I had to keep remembering to turn it on before going on line. ( I forgot a
couple of times). I check the schedules via the System Tray icon. The
scheduled times seem to be occurring(when using the computer the pointer
also blinks or freezes). The Tray icon seems to indicate that update
downloads are happening. Later, because the box appeared again after bootup,
I shut down on restart, the message still appeared.

Mary,

Just to let you know, today is going to be a busy one for me. Don't expect

a
response from me until this evening, possibly very late this evening (and
I'm three hours west of you.)

You *still* haven't changed your email address to a fake one in this news
account. Keep that up and you'll be wanting a new email address soon, s.

MY apologies, I have a 'memory leak' somewhere on my body. Had intended

to
tell you about the x's. Yes the x's show which programs I configured

not
to
load at startup. Will send info in segments upon replies and inquiries.
Wordpad or something didn't send info as I intended, with separation.

Hope
y'all can read it.
