upgrade to USB 2.0
I bought a usb 2.0 2 port pci card. After I installed it, Windows wanted
me to insert the Win-ME disk to find some usb drivers. I bought the system with windows preinstalled and all I have are some system recovery disks (which require complete reformatting). I don't have an ME disk. What should I do now? Thanks! -- Hugs, Erika |

Win Me doesn't include support for usb 2. You should have received the
usb 2 drivers with the PCI card when you bought it, if not check the manufacturer's web site. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Erika wrote: I bought a usb 2.0 2 port pci card. It did include a cd with drivers, but when I try to install it, it keeps asking for different usb dll's, like hotplug.dll, usbd.sys, etc, and also openhci.sys. I made a list of what it's asking for. It looks like I could find most of these drivers etc on the internet. Where would I put them? I went to System properties - Device manager - usb etc and the yellow marks are gone. Do you think it would be safe to try out some of my USB devices and see if devices work when they're plugged in? I don't want anything to break. I know I have hot plug on my system because I have a camera card reader that I plug in and unplug via the system tray. I bought a new external hard drive and that's really what I want the USB 2.0 port for. Thanks so much!!! -- Hugs, Erika |

Look on your PC for the file BASE2.CAB and if located make a note of the directory containing this file. Now install your usb 2 drivers and when it asks for you to insert the Win Me CD point it instead at the folder containing BASE2.CAB and it should then find the files it needs and complete the installation. I don't have BASE2.CAB. -- Hugs, Erika |

Are you really certain about that? Is it perhaps in a folder on a
different partition? If you really don't have BASE2.CAB and the rest of the Win Me cab files then you really have been screwed by the company that manufactured your PC - I just hope I never buy one from the same company. Unlikely of course as I build my own but such deliberate action by the company is disgraceful. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Erika wrote: Mike M wrote: Look on your PC for the file BASE2.CAB and if located make a note of the directory containing this file.
