What if I don't have the M/E CD anymore?!
I am trying to use the Sony Cybershot camera I got for
Christmas, but when my computer recognizes the added hardware and tries to install it - a driver is apparently missing and I am prompted to put in the original Microsoft Millenium installation CD. Yikes! I no longer have it. What can I do?! |

Look for a folder on your hard disk containing the file BASE2.CAB, (usually
either C:\Windows\Options\Cabs or C:\Windows\Options\Install) and when asked by the installer for the files, point the installer at that folder. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "alibaba" wrote in message ... USB drivers
This seems to be a common problem with some OEM installs of Win Me. The files are in the "cab" files in the Win9x folder on the Win Me CD and/or in a sub-folder of Windows\Options and not directly visible in Explorer. See MS KB 265371 - "How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=265371) for details of how to extract files from the cab set. Alternatively use MSConfig | General | Extract File... and follow the prompts to extract a new copy of the required files to your windows\system32\drivers folder . Most USB related files can be found in BASE2.CAB although some are located in other cabs. However probably the easiest way to proceed is for you visit to http://www.usb-drivers.com/drivers/63/63237.htm and download usb-WinMe.exe which contains WinMe's usb related files. Extract the files you want and put them in windows\system32\drivers. -- Mike Maltby ----- For USBNTMAP.SYS http://www.usb-drivers.com/drivers/35/35971.htm and for USBSTOR.SYS http://www.usb-drivers.com/drivers/28/28628.htm http://www.usb-drivers.com/drivers/63/63237.htm and download "usb-WinMe.exe" , which contains WinMe's usb related files USB Input Devices Do Not Work in Safe Mode or Real Mode http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=256300 ------- Herewith a list of all 'usb' files and locations on the WinMe CD if that helps:- usbui.dll BASE2.CAB usbmphlp.pdr BASE2.CAB hidusb.sys BASE2.CAB usbauth.sys BASE2.CAB usbccgp.sys BASE2.CAB usbd.sys BASE2.CAB usbhub.sys BASE2.CAB usbntmap.sys BASE2.CAB usbprints.sys BASE2.CAB usbstor.sys BASE2.CAB ptpusb.dll DRIVER5.CAB dbcusb.sys DRIVER6.CAB icam4usb.sys DRIVER6.CAB usbaudio.sys DRIVER7.CAB usbcamd2.sys DRIVER7.CAB usbintel.sys DRIVER7.CAB usbscan.sys DRIVER7.CAB usbser.sys DRIVER7,CAB usb8023.sys NET4.CAB icam4usb.inf PRECOPY1.CAB rndm3cusb.inf PRECOPY1.CAB usb.inf PRECOPY1.CAB usb8023.inf PRECOPV1.CAB usbcdc.inf PRECOPY1.CAB usbntmap.inf PRECOPY1.CAB usbstor.inf PRECOPY1.CAB usbwave.inf PRECOPY1.CAB usbmon.dll WIN_15.CAB vdma_usb.inf WIN_18.CAB usbcamd.sys WIN_19.CAB ----------- -- Jack E.
