Default Drive A:

Is there any way I can get my USB Floppy Drive to become drive A: so I can
make a startup floppy disk in Windows 98?
Thanks

It might be easier to just download one from www.Bootdisk.com.
Insert the diskette then run the EXE file from your HD. It may find
it.
Let us know if it doesn't find it.

You probably still want the external as A: though.
What is A: now?

Thanks Bill,
I did download the startup floppy disk content from www.Bootdisk.com
Then I put the contents on a bootable CD, which my notebook will recognize.
However, I would still like to make my USB floppy drive driveA:

If I plug in the USB FD and boot the notebook, My Computer shows:
3 1/2 Floppy [A:] 3 1/2 Inch Floppy Drive
ACER 600 TER [C:] LOCAL DISK
[D:] CD-ROM DISC
3 1/2 Floppy [E:] 3 1/2 Inch Floppy Drive

A: is always shown but does not exist
E: is the USB Floppy Drive

Question is - how can I convert E: to A:?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

You might try booting to Safe Mode Device Manager and removing the
floppy AND all floppy duplicates, if any, and reboot.

First I would boot to the BIOS and see what's there regarding the
floppy. That would affect DOS. You may also need Dos drivers for the
USB port so you can boot from it. The USB floppy may have come with
an installation CD with DOS drivers.
