REINSTALLATION AGAIN

Hello all. I am having a problem installing an operating system back on to a
Dell 4600i. It had win xp and locked up as soon as it got to adminstrative
login. i fdisked and formatted the hard drive through dos. I am trying to get
win 98 to run on it, however, it installs win 98 and then the normal
updating system files continuing to load windows screen stays on for at least
15 minutes and does nothing. i can only get to the win 98 in safe mode which
doesn't help me to now reinstall xp. two questions. 1. any suggestions on
this problem? 2. can i go from a formatted hard drive to reinstalling xp?

You do not need to install win98 to install winXP. The WinXP disk is
bootable. Select boot from CDROm in bios, insert the winXP CD and go.

My suggestion would be to format the drive and use the ntfs file system (you
can do this after booting the winXP CD)
