"Windows Not Responding"
Lately, applications often freeze up, or cease to
respond. When I "Ctrl Alt Del" to select the application to close it that way, I see "Windows Not Responding" in the list of applications. I have reformatted twice recently due to software conflicts with my camera software and the stupid things the stupid Support Dept told me to do (that messed up my win .dll files arrgghh). So, that all said, since my Pc is reformatted and software issues resolved (needed codecs), my Win98SE & Office Pro 2000 are all installed fresh and 'updated'.... programs are still freezing, and I'm still getting "window's not responding" messages. Could this be caused by faulty RAM? My pc is 3yrs old, PIII, 14Gig, 1000mhz, 128RAM, Wind98SE. If RAM has a 'leak' or "hiccups" or whatever you want to call it, could this interuption in the memory cause my 'win not responding'?? |

Hi Victoria,
Bad RAM certainly *could* cause that problem. Free memory testers: http://www.memtest86.com/ and DocMemory from: http://www.simmtester.com/ These software tests of RAM are not 100% accurate, so you may want to swap in some known good RAM instead. -- HTH, Curt W98 Support & Discussion: http://dundats.proboards27.com/index.cgi Windows How-tos and and Freewa http://mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/ Windows Help & Discussion: http://forum.aumha.org/ "Victoria" wrote in message ... Ok, am checking out those mem tests as we speak.
Another question: what else could it be? And, to get new RAM, someone said there are different kinds and I need to check what kind my pc uses? Is this true and how do I know what kind my pc is using without opening my case? (I have never done that and would rather not fiddle w/parts). Thanks -----Original Message----- Hi Victoria, Bad RAM certainly *could* cause that problem. Ok, I tried memtest. It kept restarting and never
completed 'test #7'. Here are the results. PIII=999.3mhz, L1 Cache=32k 9797mb, L2 Cache=25k 4441.mb, Mem=128m 339mb, Chipset=vt82c691, Cached=128m, Rsvd Mem=76k, Mem map=e820-std, Cache=on, Ecc=Off, Test=std, Pass=6, Errors= 0, Ecc= was blank, Errs=0. So.... what do you think of these results? -----Original Message----- Hi Victoria, Bad RAM certainly *could* cause that problem.
