Default Parallel Port Issues

Hello all, I am having a problem that I have never seen before.

I have a pc that has onboard printer port. This is defaulted to lpt1.
I installed another parallel card in the machine, but it pops up as
lpt3. Leaving lpt2 missing. I have tried to go into the registry and
rename lpt3 to lpt2, with no luck. lpt2 will show up, but its not a
printer port for some odd reason. After deleting and reinstalling, the
new card still pulls up as lpt3. I desperately need this to be lpt2.
Any clues as to what to do? I have verified IRQ and everything pans
out correctly... It just says that its lpt3.

So in short, I have lpt1 and lpt3, but no lpt2. How do I get lpt2?

TIA many TIA!

What does your BIOS configuration screen show?
Mine is / Advanced / On board Devices Configuration
and shows only one parallel printer port (with
three optional base addresses) and the Mode option (ECP).

Thank you very much, I was just hopping on to let everyone know that I
figured it out. I did exactly what you said as well as disabled the
hardware that was conflicting, removed the new card and reconfigured
the onboard parallel port for IRQ5, thus giving me the results I
needed.

Thank you all very much and thank you Richard for helping me out, if
there was a way to grant points, I would!!!!

Have a good day.

That's how I fixed mine IIRC.
