Default scanner communication error

Regarding my scanner error message: status unavailable:
Thanks for replying...the printer/scanner is a Canon
MP360. I have installed, removed, re-installed several
times. From the beginning, the printer worked, the scanner
gave me an error message "status unavailable". I am able
to scan to the printer, but not to my computer. I have
tried several different USB cables, perhaps there is a
communication problem with my USB program??? But I do not
know how to troubleshoot the status of the USB program in
my computer.
PLease Help!!!
