Flash Drive help needed

I am trying the unofficial way to install a flash drive

Here is my drive set up/

C partition 1
D partition 2
E partition 3
X DVD drive (Was cd/rw drive)

In the config.sys files for windows 98,

I will put that in.

DEVICE=c:\windows\system\csmapper.sys
DEVICE=c:\windows\system\carddrv.exe /slot=2

My question is what slot should I use?

With those files is it possible to use a floppy boot disk and boot up
the flash drive?

How long do flash drives last?

carddrv.exe and csmapper.sys are used for PCMCIA slots on older laptops,
which sometimes were used for PCMCIA memory cards. These have nothing
to do with USB flash drives. USB flash drives do not go into PCMCIA
slots, and those drivers have nothing to do with USB ports. What
exactly are you talking about?

That's a very odd blog, and I think it would be best to ignore it, as I do
not understand what is being done there. Perhaps he is using some form of
USB interface that uses the PCMCIA slot. Whatever, if your USB is already
working for other devices, then the procedure on that site are not relevant.
Use the procedure Glee has suggested, and ignore that blog.

That is all way more complicated than you need.
I recommend using the driver from the Italian web site wintricks.it

It is not installed beforehand like some other generic drivers; rather
you point to it when Windows first detects the inserted thumb drive, as
you can see from the pictures on the web pages, even if you cannot read
Italian.
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98.html

Although the pages are in Italian, you can look at the screenshots on
some of the pages to determine how the driver is installed and
uninstalled:
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_2.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_3.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_4.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_5.html
The Download link is the "Download" button on the last page.
http://www.wintricks.it/download/wtgenusb.zip

Basically, you download the driver package (.zip file),

I have the same driver(s) on my computer, and I didnt have to even point
anything anywhere,, simply stuck in the stick, and the stick was active
and has been ever since. Has never asked for instal or inf or even an
egg for breakfast.
Anyway, I am replying to this post mainly because to this day, I still
cannot fathom why 'wintricks' is in english, and the txt in italian?
would have thought by now someone somewhere might have updated the page
for a choice of language.....? any takers?

If you do that above, disable both scanreg.exe and scanregw.exe

Otherwise, you will have to reinstall windows 98se.

Luckily I have a ghost image backup.

I will try what glee suggested and download this file
