Installing Ethenet card fails causing VXD tbl and loss of connectivity
Sorry, at this point, I'm not able to continue until I've had some rest. I'm
dealing with some insomnia, and my brain is on strike. I'll post back tomorrow , latest (I'm on Pacific Time). -- Gary S. Terhune MS-MVP Shell/User "T. Duprex" tduprexATlandmark.net wrote in message ... I pointed to the Win98 folder which contained a README.TXT file and the NETDLFET.INF file. I mis-spoke about the INI file, I was looking on the installation CD to see if they had the INF file. If it was accessable I would have tried it to eliminate a corrupter file. When you unzipped teh file into \Driver_File\, there should be another folder inside that one called WIN98. THat is where the INF file is located. You say something later about an INI file. That's not an INF file. |

Installing Ethenet card fails Trouble is back
Isolated two entries that caused some illegal messages, but not as wild as
before. I have 17 items now On. I turned off DK Service which is associated with defragmenter called Diskeeper, file name diskeeper.exe and ICSDCLT which in is C:\Windows, file name: rundll32.exe arguments:C: \Windows\System\ecsdclt.dll.ICSClient. and now I can boot up repeatedly with no chaffe. Now the only issue is being able to communicate on the internet. |

Installing Ethenet card fails Trouble is back
Now the only issue is being able to communicate on the internet. Did a few things but had no success: To eliminate cable, swapped cable, then swapped ports on router. Powered off all computers then varied the seqence I powered on to see IP address of TOWER (the bad guy) would change, and it did. Also that I could communicate intra net (swap files), and I could. Did run:winipcfg, then release all and Renew all Note that prior to attempting to install a new network card, the old card worked fine. I could go to the interenet and intranet no problem. Would not this eliminate the router? |

Installing Ethenet card fails Trouble is back
Gary;
I also tried to install the D-Link DFE-530TX+ again when I noticed that I gave you bum dope. We had the wrong diver. I told you I had a DFE-530TX!! I have a Plus. I noticed that the model was a DFE-530TX+ a plus. Went to the D-Link site and downloaded the driver file: dfe530TX+_driver_5397.exe which is different than dfe530TX_driver_10152001.exe, the one I tried to install. Disappointedly, when I pointed the "Search for" to the win98 unzipped folder, it again said it couldn't find a driver. Very frustrating. This Win98 folder had the following files: DLDRTS.SYS; Netdlkr5.cat; and NETDLKR5.INF. |

Installing Ethenet card fails Trouble is back
More test results.
Attempt to install network printer fails. I tried to install a network printer on TOWER, thinking that if I can share files this ought to work. It fails. I have an Brother HL2070N, a network capable printer that is connected to one of the ethernet ports on a NETGEAR WGPS606 wireless print server that has 2 usb connectors and 4 Ethernet ports. All other computers have had the HL2070N installed and can print, no problem. In the original network card configuraton before trying to install a new card, I had set up TOWER to print and it did. Unfortunately I did not make a system image after I installed the Brother. Therefore in the present condition, seeing how I could communicate intranet, I attempted to install the Brother. It fails when the installation disk searches the network to set up a peer to peer link I immediately get a Setup window with a "this program has performed and illegal operation". In monitoring the LEDs on the network card they didn't even blink. |

Diskkeeper could caused problems. ICS is internet connection sharing and
should be disabled/uninstalled is you're not going to use it, which your aren't. It's in that same Windows Setup tab, Communications section. -- Gary S. Terhune MS-MVP Shell/User "T.
