Default Win 98 - Control panel problem

Dear all

I am running WIN98 and none of the icons in the control
panel work. I also notice that the right hand click
property menus do not all work. The PC will not shut down
or re-start.

Any Ideas.

Components of the Control Panel are CPL files
(except that the main unit is not MAIN.CPL but
something else, an EXE file.) You may get partway
to the solution by running SFC = System File
Checker on all your *.CPL files.

Extract a new copy of RUNDLL32.EXE from either your Windows 98 CD or from the CAB
files on your hard drive, whichever you have, to the Windows folder, using the
"Extract one file" option of System File Checker (SFC).

How to use SFC to extract a file:

Then, update your anti-virus app and then run a full-system virus scan.

Use CWShredder, the CoolWeb removal tool, available he

Close all apps and browser windows, run CWShredder and click the Fix button.

In addition, install Ad-Aware 6 free edition, start it, click its 'Check for
Updates' link in the app to install updates, then use it to scan your system, and
remove what it finds.
