Default No printers communicate due to "user intervention required"

In the process of simply adding a printer, somewhere I
started getting the red error message "user intervention
required, use printer off line" whenever I click on a
printer icon in the Printer Controls screen, and no
printer is now able to communicate with windows. Something
to do with network settings? My pc is not networked. How
can I return to normal Windows to printer communication?
Thanks for any ideas!

Open the printers folder, right-click the printer, clear "Use printer offline". This
maybe in a different place in the 98 printer folder, however the dialog will still be
the same.

Thank you for the tip -However, when I try to clear "Use
printer offline", it just doesn't clear - just stays
checked. Is there a way to unlock that?

After trying to uncheck "use printer off line" again, I
realize there is an info box saying "Cannot connect to
this network printer- make sure your network is working
properly and the network share you are connected to
exists." And of course this PC has never been networked,
other than sharing an internet connection through a
router. Thank you again for your reply.
