I have a question..
Somehow two very important files got deleted from my
computer, and I was wondering if there was a way to bring back filed once they have been removed from the recycle bin? I keep getting these two messages everytime I restart or turn on the computer (it freezes up several times a day as of late): Before Windows ME loads: "Cannot locate/run 'WININIT.EXE' Press any key to continue." Once Windows loads, I get a pop-up that says: "Windows cannot find '/P'. You may have typed the name incorrectly in the Run dialog, or another program cannot find a system file. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." What would you recommend that I do about these problems? If anyone could help me, I would be very appreciative! Thank you so much! |

I have a question..
Amy,
WININIT.EXE Can you actually get Win Me to boot? If so you can then replace the file wininit.exe by extracting a new copy from the Win Me cab set. Wininit.exe is contained in WIN_17.CAB of the Win Me cab set and can be replaced using MSConfig | General | Extract File ... and following the prompts. The "cab" files are in the Win9x folder on the Win Me CD and/or in a sub-folder of Windows\Options. See MS KB129605 - "HOW TO: Extract Original Compressed Windows Files" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=129605) for details of how to extract files from the cab set. Wininit.exe belongs in your windows folder. Windows cannot find /P Use MSConfig (Start, Run, enter MSConfig in the box and click OK). Open the Startup tab and look for an entry that in the right hand column includes /P. Uncheck this and reboot. Does this help? If found please post details of the line you uncheck that includes /P. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Amy wrote: Somehow two very important files got deleted from my computer, and I was wondering if there was a way to bring back filed once they have been removed from the recycle bin?
