Default Partitioning OEM op system

Good evening,

If I buy a new Dell, or other factory computer, will I be able to
repartition the hard drive to mount a Win ME op system? This would allow me
to run some old flight simulators that may not have XP drivers.

Yes and no. If you intend using XP's boot manager adding Win Me to an
existing XP system isn't particularly easy unlike adding XP to a Win Me
system which is fairly trivial. If however you use a third party boot
manager such as BootIt NG then you should have no problem in altering the
size of the existing partitions, adding a new partition and installing Win
Me so that you can multi-boot between Win Me and XP.

Making changes like these to the hard drive and operating system could
be enough to void your warranty.

Thanks, Mike. BootIt NG seems the way to go.

Thanks, Ron. But why?! It seems that the worst you could do would be fixed
by running the recovery disk. Why would the manufacturer care?

Joe,

As you might have guessed BootIt NG is what I use. I previously used
BootMagic (part of Partition Magic) from PowerQuest (since acquired by
Symantec) but moved to using BING around the time that Win Me was launched
in 2000.
