Default MSconfig

Brought up msconfig tonight and noticed two things, and i've
never queried them.
1)why my 'selective startup' is ticked; along with the selections of
choice.
2)why my 'disable fast shutdown' is still an accessable tick-box.

I say this because I have a slick running machine and has been
for a while. (years, its dual boot with xp.)
As far as I know the 'selective' has always been ticked,
the 'disable fast' has always been the same.
I have OEM win98 first and have never had any of the frequent
problems mentioned by users in groups and forums.
Guess I'll just count myself as lucky for now.

Appreciate feed on two Q's.
(wont touch what isnt broken though)

Usually that happens when you are troubleshooting something from the
STARTUP tab. Check it out. Do you have a number of programs that are
unchecked in the STARTUP tab of MSCONFIG. The alternative is to remove
anything that is not checked in the STARTUP tab and then revert to
NORMAL STARTUP. If you are finding it difficult to get rid of programs
in the STARTUP tab, you may want to consider downloading a neat
little free utility that will manage this for you. You can get
Startup Control Panel 2.8 by Mike Lin at; www.mlin.net .

Having said the above, if everything is working properly the way it
is, I would be inclined to not touch anything.

Selective Startup will be ticked if you have *anything* disabled in your startup
axis, on the Startup, Autoexec.bat, Config.sys, Winstart.bat, Win.ini, or System.ini
tabs of msconfig. All it takes is one entry disabled within any of those files to
cause elective to be ticked.

If you have Fast Shutdown enabled and are not having problems, more power to you.
Not everyone has trouble with it. It is unticked by default in Win98FE and ticked
by default in Win98SE. Dunno what might have unticked it if you previously had it
ticked. Gremlins?

Fair enough, then I shall leave all as is and happy comping
to me.
Yes, there are entries in Startup within msconfig that have been
altered and hence the Selective being as it is.
