Default strange behavior of losing my A drive's ability to read the disk

The other night I had to use my Windows 98 startup disk to
get the computer running again. After I did this the A
drive would not read any more diskettes! Instead Windows
then would ask to format the A diskette. I haven't been
able to use my A drive ever since. Does anyone know how to
fix this problem? Similarly on another computer it had
Microsoft Works 2000 on it. When I clicked on a diskette
(to open a Word document), it prompted me to put the MS
Works 2000 CD in the CD-ROM. I must have chosen the wrong
command because now the A drive will not read Word
documents (even with Office 97 installed on the computer).
Lastly I uninstalled MS Works and the computer still will
not read Word documents. What is going on here? Thanks for
any help you can provide me with in advance!

Possibly a boot sector virus. See =

Default strange behavior of losing my A drive's ability to read the disk

Hi Ben,

I tried to download and run this Ivinits utility and I got
to it's main screen but I didn't have to respond "yes" to
anything. It just said that everything seemed to be okay.
I am wondering whether I used this application in the way
way or something? I started my laptop on MS-DOS mode too!
Thanks for any more advice you can give me on this matter,

Sounds like there is no boot virus. Try extracting a fresh
copy of "hsflop.pdr" to the "c:\windows\system\iosubsys"
folder. You may have to restart the computer before
Windows will use the extracted file.

Extract it from your Windows 98 CD.
