Default Just can't get display right

I had the same problem as James (Sept 19th 10.54am)
number of colours and screen resolution 'stuck'.

I looked at the PC, the books/disks/manuals that came
with it it, visited the Intel website, gathered the
information shown below, followed the recommended steps,
I thought, but as it's still 'stuck' must have missed
something!

* Processor = Pentium II (speed 333mhz)
* Operating System = Win98 v.4.10.1998
* Chipset = Intel 440BX (do you need the AGP set info?)
* Graphics chip = Intel 740 accelerated VGA
* Monitor = LG StudioWorks 57M - that is not available in
the list so I've tried letting Win detect it and got
Unknown Monitor, and set to LG StudioWorks 56m (5-11-1998)
and VGA this and Super VGA that - what am I missing?

Extra notes - MAY be useful:-
In Device Manager
Display Adapter = Standard PCI Graphics Adapter
(under properties says 'Hardware version 033
Driver Microsoft date 5-11-98)

In System Information
(that I look at without understanding)

under Drivers
in 16 bit Modules Loaded it says this
DISPLAY
4.10.1998
Microsoft Windows 95
Super VGA Display Driver

and, under Allocated Resources
Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)
Logical Configuration 0

As you can see, I am trying, but have such big knowledge
gaps, I can't always follow what I read in Microsoft Help
articles and so on.

Hope you can help.

Erika.

When you say the screen resolution is 'stuck' do you mean you only have 2 or
16 colors?

The MVPs and others like me who help out on this newsgroup do not access it
through the Web like you are doing. They access it through Outlook Express.
As a result, I don't have the message you refer to in Outlook Express
because I deleted it yesterday.

Yes, 2 or 16 colours only and screen resolution tag won't
drag. Got abot 64 pixels on my screen - hence using a
different PC to contact you guys.
