USB 2.0 query
I am using Win 98se with USB 1.0. I've just installed a PCI card with 5 USB
2.0 sockets. It seems to have installed OK but is there a way to test that it's working as Ver 2.0 and not ver 1.0 ? Regards and thanks in advance Pat Macguire |

USB1 uses 11 megabits/sec (Mbit/s) transfer rate that is
1.1 megabytes/sec. USB2 is much faster - 400Mbit/s If you have an Enhanced Host Controller listed under USB Controllers in the Device Manager, the controller will use the correct mode for the device. See this page: http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/USB.htm If you don't have an Enhanced Controller, you should try downloading the latest updates from the PC's motherboard's site, one of which should be a USB Controller. Use this free utility to ID the motherboard if necessary: Everest Home Edition: http://www.lavalys.com/ Eric, http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/ http://www.sharedbirthday.co.uk/ -----Original Message----- "P and H Macguire" wrote in : I am using Win 98se with USB 1.0. Yes, the enhanced driver must be installed for USB to work in 2.0 mode.
You need a USB 2.0 device to establish its operability though. Such a device that will work in USB 1.1 or 2.0 enviironment can be used since he had both type ports. A scanner or HD will show a dramatic performance difference between the two different type USB ports. Scanner must use same scanner settings etc for comparison. Use benchmark software for comparing using a HD, cached files to memory may require a reboot for fair comparison of alternate USB port. wrote in message ...
