Restore won't activate
You don't say whether you're creating a Restore point, or using an existing
one. This type of problem is often caused simply by it having been a long time since the system was able to create a restore point - and consequently having a LOT of work to do - which makes it appear that it's stalled, when in fact it's doing what its supposed to do. Be patient, and wait at least 30 minutes before giving up on it. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Bob McQueen" wrote in message ... Restore won't activate
The window for restore won't open. The selection is there
to activate it but nothing happens. After the first time this happened I went into the file system to make sure it was turned on and it was. Tried again, no luck. returned to file system and turned off restore. Did a reboot and then back to file system and activated the restore, another reboot but it still won't activate. -----Original Message----- You don't say whether you're creating a Restore point, or using an existing one. Restore won't activate
How are you trying to open System Restore?
from 1) Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools 2) MSCONFIG 3) System Information 4) a command line - c:\windows\system\restore\rstrui.exe try all the above options - see if any give more/different responses Check the archive - make sure that Windows Explorer is set to view hidden and system files (in Folder Options) - then look for the folder C:\_Restore. r-click on its icon, and select Properties. How many files/folder are there? how much space is taken up? - how big is your C: drive?? -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Bob McQueen" wrote in message ... Restore won't activate
Don't even think about that!!! - there are too many pratfalls along the way!
instead - look here for instructions on how to reinstall Help&Support - which will fix both problems (unfortunately, you'll lose all existing SR points along the way, but it seems that they're not much use to you at present anyhow.) http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/UnReHS.htm HTH -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Bob McQueen" wrote in message ...
