Default Lost WIN.ini

Somehow the WIN.INI file is gone with the wind.
Anyone can tell me where I can retrieve it, and if so,
where do I put it.
This is for an OS 98 of a certain vintage. Thanks in
advance.

Boot the computer to "Command Prompt Only"

At the C:\ prompt enter the following commands

SMARTDRV
SCANREG /RESTORE

Choose the most recent registry backup to restore. The backup data
includes a copy of WIN.INI.

WARNING: If the most recent backup is not from the last time that
Windows was successfully booted up then do not restore it. Restoring
outdated registry versions can cause even worse problems. Post a
response back here, and include the dates of the available backup
registries and the file names for each. We can then give you
instructions as to how to manually extract just the win.ini file from
one of the older backups.

Good luck

It should be in C:\Windows. Look there and also check to see if there =
is a recent or backup file.
