finding group a poster posts to,,(i know, i know, its off.

hi to all,,,,,
yep, i am a new lurker but seeing as I intend on spending time here and
getting to know all regs, I was wondering if someone here could at least
point me in the right direction.
I wish to find a newsgroup (unknown name) of where I know the name of a
person who posts. The name naturally is made up like the rest of anything
that travels to usenet but I'm told you can do a search on just the 'nic' of
the poster in order to find the group.

tia to any who have any answers or pointers.
