I agree with PA Bear. I would at least have a full system-back up before
even attempting to remove IE which I have no plans to do. Also, Bill in Co., how are you planning on getting Windows updates without IE or do you have some incredible computer that is able to keep out all intruders. bg "PA Bear" wrote in message ... Bill in Co. wrote: But wasn't there a program someone wrote that supposedly does remove IE from the system? Bill in Co., have you at least considered making Mozilla Firefox or another
browser your default browser before attempting to remove IE? I mainly use Firefox now and use IE only when necessary but to each his own. : "Bill in Co." wrote in message ... Hi!
1. IE 6 has better support for certificates on smartcards. 2. www.epoline.org is displayed correctly in latest versions of Firefox, Opera and IE but not in IE 5.5 SP2. Best regards, Roman "Bill in Co." wrote in message ... LOL!!! They said "resistance is futile", but they were wrong! As for me, I'm QUITE CONTENT with IE 5.5 SP2. There have been some rumors (not created by me) that some people using Win98SE had some problems with IE 6. I don't know if that is the case - most people here say it works great. So - if you want the newest model, go for it! But as for me, (and just as an aside), I'm still QUITE CONTENT with WMP 6.4 too (just for the record) So there! LOL. Gary S. Thank you very much for the reply. (And don't believe a word of what Colorado says! eg) Please pardon my ignorance, but what the above was supposed to mean? TIA, Eugene ================================================= "PA Bear" wrote in message ... MS considers IE6 SP1 to be a Critical Update: http://snipurl.com/4bgz. The author of that post, Anthony Grey, heads up the IE/OE sustained engineering team at Microsoft. Upgrading will necessitate two (2) visits to Windows Update: One to install IE6 SP1 (and reboot), then another to install post-SP1 updates for both IE and Win98. To assure a clean install, your anti-virus application should be disabled and all other running processes closed before installing anything, including Windows Updates. Early versions of IE6 SP1 proved troublesome for a small minority of Win98 users but such bugs have been addressed and trouble us no more. Don't let anyone else tell you differently. Are there any reasons not to? Please share your experience. TIA, Eugene |

I had to upgrade my internet explorer from 5 to 6 in order to install a piece of softwear (IE 6 was included on the cd). I have not noticed any difference and I hear from my pc whizz friend that 5 is actually quite good anyway.
