Need to rerun setup again but program thinks there isn't enough me
The blue screen pops up during stratup saying it can't find a certian file to run normally. My cd drive will not work in "Safe Mode". I use my startup disk and windows98 2ed Cd after restart. Startup disk tells me there isn't enough memory to run setup. It thinks my computor has less memory than the 7.5 megs it needs. This is on an 8 gig hard drive. I am stumpped.
Any suggestions on fixing this. Bill |

Need to rerun setup again but program thinks there isn't enoug
Don,
The error message reads; "Invalid VxD dynamic link call from VSDATA95(01) + 00027B44 to device "0028 service 800A. Your Windows Configuration is invalid." When in "safe mode", using the DOS Prompt, the computer says there is over 1 gig-bytes of free memory but when I use the startup disk it says there is only 6 meg-bytes on my hard drive. My computer is an old Compaq Deskpro 2000. Is there something I can do to open up more memory when using the Startup disk? If I use the extract program will the files automaticly go to there proper directories? There isn't much help in the help files regarding this. I appreciate any suggestions, Bill "Don Phillipson" wrote: "William, the Novice" William, the wrote in message ... Safe Mode loads no drivers and your CD drive need drivers: that is why it does not work. Did you have Zone Alarm installed and you uninstalled it? If so ( you mentioned being
able to get to Safe Mode): Start Run, type in: regedit and press Enter Navigate to and delete the key: Delete the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\VSDATA95 .. Always backup the registry before making any changes so that you may import the keys back in should anything go wrong. Haphazardly removing keys in the registry is very dangerous and can render your system useless. Be 100% sure of what you are doing and what you remove can be safely done. You can Backup the registry key/s while in regedit: Click on Registry on the menu bar while in the registry, click on “Export Registry File.. Choose a location, I recommend saving it to the desktop and it makes it easy to find. Place a check next to “Selected Branch and give the file a memorable name, select save, make your changes and close out. If you have no problems after say 2 weeks, you can delete the exported files. If you have problems, double click the reg file on the desktop to import/merge it back into the registry. Do Not back up the entire registry in the registry editor. Importing it back while in windows can be harmful to the machine. A registry backup is created each new calendar day a machine is booted. If you wish to perform a new backup of the registry after the machine has been booted, got to Start Run, type in: scanregw and hit enter. You will be prompted that a registry has already been backed up for the day and do you wish to create a new one, click yes.
