desktop icons do not work

I ran the Feb 2004 Security UPdate CD for ME and all the
desktop icons will not work, they do not execute. Right
Click on icon brings up the desktop properties. New
shortcut icons do the same thing. Is there a fix?

Outch. I notice that you haven't got any replies to this problem yet. HOW
did you manage with this problem since you posted your message?

I guess I won't even TRY running the Update CD on my WinME!

I recommend that you contact the MS helpline for your location - details are
on the CD cover.

This is the first post that I've seen in these groups with a significant
problem with the Security CD - most other problems have been caused by
removing the CD too early (DO NOT remove the CD until the updater tells you
it's finished!! - about three or four reboots are required)
The few other problems that I've seen with the CD are simply that the PC was
infested with spyware/viruses prior to installation - and there's not a lot
MS could be expected to do about that!
