Every time I try to start a PC with Windows Me, I get the following error :
"MSGSRV32 has caused an error in KRNL386.exe" the computer then freezes up
and doesn't let me do any thing. How can I fix this problem?

Thank you

Hi,

This type of error is usually associated with either Sound or Video display
driver.

Note: To do this procedure you need to have a retail copy of the Windows
ME cd-rom. Also please note that the Recovery cd supplied with OEM system
will not help.
hopefully curing your problem.

Reboot to Safe Mode. Open Device Manager. Remove the following devices
under the following:
1. Display Adapters
2. Monitors
3. Sound &Multimedia devices
4. Also any drvices with yellow or red marked
5. Other Devices
6. Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the required drivers

Hope this helps ......

Ashok,

Out of curiosity why does deleting the various entries in the Device
Manager require the user to have a retail copy of Win Me? It's not as if
the system is going to want and try to access the Win Me cab files which
should anyhow be available in either windows\system\cabs (if installed
using OEM media) or windows\options\install (if installed using Microsoft
media).
