Default File Problems

I was creating rescue discs using Nortons, when I error
message stated the there were 2 files problems. One, was
keyb.com was not found. Is it an important file and do
you know why the file does not exist? The second file was
display.sys was not found in c:\windows\command although
in was in c:\windows. I managed to work around this
except for the keyb.com file.

Doesn't really matter, Noel. It's just 'no keyb.com' and 'display.sys not
being in %windir%'. Probably due to ME being installed without making the
EBD, or something. Probably can't get the tilde, either! Anyway, supply the
files and it'll work. Display.sys - WIN_19.CAB. Keyb.ebd - WIN_16.CAB.

Excuse my not answering the OP, but that's me and my plonk list! Funny thing
is I don't have aol blocked anymore!

Keyb.ebd is also in the EBD folder IIRC - and just needs the extension
changing? (my ME box is down for the night)

Well, I've not seen it there in that guise (doesn't prove anything). And
what I'm thinking - and this may be a misapprehension that I repeat ad
nauseum - is that when you don't set up for a non-US locale, you don't get
keyb.com. And/or it's a file that's extracted for the EBD process then
deleted according to this section of subase.inf:

[cmd.del.file]
bootdisk.bat
keyb.com
display.sys
nlsfunc.exe

It strikes me that you (and I) were experimenting a few months back with the
temporary folders created during setup (C:\Wininst0.400\EBD iirc) and if
you viewed those files you may have seen keyb.ebd there (if the above is
correct as opposed to raving).

Thanks, to confirm, are you advising that I copy
Display.sys - WIN_19.CAB. Keyb.ebd - WIN_16.CAB to
c:\windows\command so that the error will not occur next

That's right. But rename keyb.ebd to keyb.com - which is what Windows does
when it extracts it from the cab. If you do already have keyb.com in

that's Rescue Disk!
