Default Firefox gone crazy

It seems that Firefox used to upgrade every so often and stick with
the same basic format just make a few changes. Version 2.x was around
for at least a year, then they came out with ver 3. Version 3 has a
really annoying issue (known by them) where it goes into offline mode
on it's own. I thought I'd install ver. 4 hoping this issue was
fixed. I get to their site and discover they are already up to
version 7. They have gone from 3 to 7 in one year. WTF!!!!

I've been told that ver7 is bloated to the max, and I question whether
it will even run on Win98 with Kernel-Ex. Does anyone know?
Quite honestly I dont want to go to ver7 anyhow. Bloatware sucks, and
they say it has a "new look", which means having to relearn the damn
thing...... No thanks!

Any comments?
Anyone know where to DL version 4?

Thats one thing I hate about mozilla, they only put the latest version
on their site.

By the way, if you intend to start talking about security, start your
own thread, I could care less about that over emphasized topic,
especially when Win98 is more secure in and of itself than the latest
MS garbage OSs.

FWIW: I tried a "newer" version of FF (maybe version 5 or 6) on Win98
using kernel-ex and though I was able to install it...it was unusable

I'd take thanatoid's suggestion

WHAT is the problem with you people?

Use Opera 10, runs fine on Windows 98, or even better, Opera 10
USB.

Too dumb to learn it or what?

Jeezus mother****ing christ (I apologize for referring to a
fictional character...)

Dude, you sound like a broken record......
I guess you forgot how I feel about Opera....
(But I did FLUSH when I saw the word).

I do still have a good working version of K-Meleon though. Works MUCH
better than FF and Operaaaauggccchhh.gag.vomit combined. But I need
FF because I need to use that "Download Helper" addon to save videos
from youtube. For normal browsing, I use K-Meleon. (best browser
around).

Pop over to http://oldversion.com/Mozilla-Firefox.html and pick your
download of Firefox

Cash

Hey, is this Johnny Cash????

Thanks for the link. I'm downloading it now.
This confirmed what I thought, they just jumped right up to ver 7. I
guess they're trying to keep up with MS and Windows 7.

Thanks

This saved me from wasting my time with it. I might try one of the
newer ones in my Win2000 partition just for the hell of it. Probably
ver5. I dont need bloat****...

All the old versions are available online.

Why upgrade? You can spoof what ever the websites want.
SeaMonkey is going nuts, too, with an upgrade every week.
IMO, They are self destructing.
I am quite happy with the old SeaMonkey 1119.
Security is not a concern of mine. My comps are secure.

Never used Sea Monkey, but ANY software that continues to annoy me
with constant upgrades gets deleted. I can understand an occasional
upgrade if it's actually doing something, maybe twice a year at most.
But if they keep doing it every few weeks, it's time to dump it in the
garbage. FF was annoying me on my laptop (which I seldom use, and is
pretty much just XP with FF right "off the shelf". I dont tweak it or
tamper with it. I dont like XP for starters, and this laptop is only
for WIFI use when I travel. I much prefer my desktop with Win98 and a
REAL mouse, large monitor, and full size keyboard.

But I had to change the setting in FF to stop annoying me with
upgrades, every fu**ing time I turned it on. Worse yet are the FORCED
upgrades, such as adobe flash. My attitude on that is this. This is
MY COMPUTER. Dont fu**ing tell me what to do with it. And what really
gets me, is that I rarely see any improvements from these upgrades.
It's mostly just more security ****, which is not a concern of mine
either.
