Taskbar shrinks when IE or Outlook opens
My taskbar line shrinks down on the bottom of the screen when I open IE
(version 6.0.2800) or Outlook 2000. It stays the same height when I open WORD or Excel. When it shrinks down, the icons get so far down that I cannot tell what they are. Have had this problem a long time and cannot stand it anymore. Any advice? Have the taskbar set to "Always On Top" and NO autohide feature. I want to taksbar to always be visible no matter what else is open. |

Your problem sounds very much the sort of effect one might see with an old
or incompatible video driver. What video card/graphics chip does your PC have? What version is the driver? -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP LohnesLink wrote: My taskbar line shrinks down on the bottom of the screen when I open IE (version 6.0.2800) or Outlook 2000. Control Panel | System | Device Manager, navigate to and expand the
Display adapters entry, select adapter, right click and the Properties. Driver details can be found on the Driver tab. Also right click on desktop, Properties, Settings, Advanced, Adapter will tell you about your graphics chip/adapter. A useful free application that will provide all this information and more is Everest Home Edition which can be downloaded from http://www.lavalys.com/products/over...?pid=1&lang=en. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP LohnesLink wrote: Mike - how can I find this info on video driver? The driver is NVIDIA version 4.12.01.0634 - a 32MB NVIDIA
GeForce2 MX (Dell). I selected "Update Automatically" via both the Control Panel option and also the desktop option. Both times, the system came back with "Most current version is already installed." So, I think it must be up-to-date. The shrinking is still occurring. Any other ideas? Thanks for you help. -----Original Message----- Control Panel | System | Device Manager, navigate to and expand the Display adapters entry, select adapter, right click and the Properties. Drivers are best maintained via the manufacturer's web site
(http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp) rather than the Windows Update site. The latest version appears to be v61.76 dated 20 July 2004. Older versions of nVidia drivers for Win Me are available (http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_archive.html) and you might want to start by trying one of those -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP LohnesLink wrote: The driver is NVIDIA version 4.12.01.0634 - a 32MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX (Dell). Had a techie service my machine for some registry issues
and whilst here, he pressed a few buttons located directly on the monitor itself and FIXED THE PROBLEM!! The monitor is a Trinitron by Dell that has the huge display screen. I feel like a dope having spent hours on this on 2 separate occasions but at least it's fixed. Thanks for all the help I've received on this website. -----Original Message----- Drivers are best maintained via the manufacturer's web site (http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp) rather than the Windows Update site.
