Javascript no longer works
Until very recently (I believe), all pages that use JavaScript (e.g. form
filling pages or pop up pages) used to work. Since I installed KB891075 update, I no longer seem to be able to run them. I get no error. If, for instance, I click on a link that will open a new window, it opens the window, but does nothing. Could this be due to the MS and Sun Java issue a while ago? If so, how do I go about sorting out the problem. I have JavaScript enabled in Explorer. I am using Win98SE with all critical updates patched. TIA Martin |

Hi, When you click on a link to open a new window, the window opens, but nothing displays in the page, correct? Does this happen on every and any new window you try to open? When you right-click any link and select open in new window, same results? Does it also happen on links that open in the same window? If it's just selected sites, you can check your IE security settings and see if by chance certain sites got put into the restricted site list. ToolsInternet OptionsSecurity or Control PanelInternet OptionsSecurity. Java and javascript are different animals. The only way this could be related to java is if every site you were trying to open was 100% java-- not very likely at all. Java is commonly used to make crossword puzzles, but has many other uses too. Javascript is widely used on the web and in particular is how popup windows are opened. Seldom is an entire page's content javascript, but if the popup window opens, javascript is working at your end anyway. Javascript has many, many other uses, such as rollover affects, slide shows and so on. If you could provide a link or 2 to sites you are having trouble with, that may help determine what the problem is. MM |

Assuming you actually mean Javascript (Jscript), and not Java, install or reinstall
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows NT 4.0: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Martin C" wrote in message ... TIA Martin http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/ans...#blank_windows It is not an issue with the Sun VS MS Java 'thing', they have kissed and made up anyway. Test your Java here http://www.javatester.org/ Reinstall the 891075 update. Resinstall 816093 MS Java build 3810. http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/ http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm Reinstall JavaScript (JScript) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en In the event you make it this far down the list you can reinstall ie as well. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer folder and double click on ie6setup.exe, choose custom and select manually every item that was installed previously. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=257249 |
