Default Trouble with Explorer and Defragging

I have Windows Me. For the past few days, I have had
problems with defragging the computer: it has not gotten
past 0% in days. Does anyone know what I can do about
this? I desparately need to defrag and nothing is
working. Also, starting today (5-20-04), there is yet
another problem. I keep getting an error message that
there is a problem with Explorer and Explorer will now
close. I cannot get rid of this error message, nor do I
know why this is happening. As of last evening, I didn't
have a problem with this. I don't know if this has
anything to do with the anti-virus or spyware software I
downloaded recently. H E L P ! Thanks!

Try running your defrag from the Safe Mode.....if that is a 'go', then you
have something, probably added recently, that is interfering.
Explorer......suggest you download CWShredder and HijackThis!, update
and run them. Sounds like you may have picked up a BHO or some other pest.
Heirloom, old and got mine

I found a solution in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article
186978. It tells how to defrag when an antivirus program
is running on the drive. I had just installed Norton and
that was when the problem began.
