Default Partioning disk

Can I partition a disk, but leave the programs intact, untill I want
to move them around. My 98se should really be reinstalled clean, but
that is too big of a headache for me, as how to store everything. I'd
like to partiion then give windows it's own partition, and all the
rest.

You must use a third-party partitioning program, in order to not lose data, but if
your data is currently on the same partition as your operating system, how do you
plan on separating them? Also, even if you create a new partition for a fresh
install of Windows, your programs will still be pointing to the old installation,
and will have to be reinstalled anyway, in order to write the necessary registry
entries in the new install.
