Default Norton (and maybe others)

Boy, am I posting a lot tonight.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed this (especially ron as I saw in an
early reply he made that he refuses to have Norton on any of his computers).

Norton on their site (all pages) do Not have an email address.
I say this cos I went there recently by accident and noticed they had a
"tester". It says to "click here" if you want them to check out the security
on your computer, and it will list any vulnerabilities you have. (this was
on their home page where they are busy advertising their products and
glorifying the fact that their anti virus software is better than their
competitions).
Anyhow, I clicked and let my puter be taken over and examined by them.
The report came back that I was vulberable, (in windows and the cdrive and
etc) and that I should buy their product.

The idiots didnt even know that I HAVE norton on my system.

Ron, your earlier comment was obviously warrented and
valid..............damn CEO's and huge corporations.
You never gave suggestions or comments as to why you wouldnt have norton
ron, I'm sure people here would now like to know why and what you personally
reckon is the best thing to have................I know I wanna know because
I trust you more than I trust them.

Jeff,
I can't speak for anyone else but I must agree with Ron, I wouldn't go
near a Symantec product if you paid me. Mainly because they cause more
problems than they "claim" to solve. Their software is not only bloated and
unreliable, but it's a damned nuisance when it comes to installing and
running other programs....

I personally run F-Prot antivirus (www.f-prot.com) and Tiny Personal
Firewall (http://freeware.it-mate.co.uk/?Cat=Security#94 - last freeware
version).

Been running both for years and they've never given me any problems.

Do you have Norton Firewall or just the Anti-Virus. A good
firewall will block people's attempts at snooping. About
the only thing which will be passed is the type of browser
you are using.

The site for testing PCs is divided into two sections, last I looked. One
is for virus, one is for security. Is your post about virus protection or
security?

The site will recommend the current version of NAV if you have an older
version. If your firewall has holes, their security check usually will find
them.

Do you all stay late at night figuring out how to malign the truth? I don't
mind documented deficiencies, but this is way out of line. Put your pajamas
on, king.

But what to replace Norton with. The one I use the most is utilities.
