PCI multimedia audio device problem
Sorry about the plethora of messages - I'll calm down soon!
During the recent upgrade of my old laptop to 98SE I think I remember seeing a message relating to audio devices somewhere along the line, but I can't remember the details. After the installation, "PCI multimedia audio device" was listed as non-functional in the Device Manager, and I couldn't play audio CDs. I tried to rectify the situation via the Properties Update Driver route, but I and/or the system couldn't find one. I then had a look at the driver CD that came with the laptop, and it does indeed contain an audio section (Crystal CS4280 to be precise), complete with a Setup file, which I executed. However, something has gone wrong in the sense that "PCI multimedia audio device" is no longer listed as non-functional in the Device Manager, *but* every time I reboot the Found New Hardware Wizard comes up, looking for "PCI multimedia audio device" drivers! See http://homepage.ntlworld.com/herb.ep...nimfurious.gif There are thousands of Google hits for "PCI multimedia audio device" and more then 100 for "crystal audio setup", but I can't quite make sense of it. Any suggestions? Thank you. Herbert Eppel www.HETranslation.co.uk |

PCI multimedia audio device problem
Boot to Safe Mode, go into Device Manager, and remove all sound-related
entries. Restart normally and install them again. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "Herb" HE@UK wrote in message ... Sorry about the plethora of messages - I'll calm down soon! Thanks - I tried that, but I couldn't see any sound-related entries in Safe Mode (perhaps I didn't look properly?) All I saw was an "unknown device" or words to that effect, which I removed, but the Found New Hardware Wizard ttill comes up when I reboot normally :-( Regards Herbert Eppel www.HETranslation.co.uk |

Depending on how the drivers installation procedure functions, "Add New
Hardware" dialogue at restart may be exactly correct. You may have to use "Have Disk..." and point to where the installer placed the files. Do you have a link for the drivers you most recently tried? -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "Herb" HE@UK wrote in message ...
