Default rawritent.exe ?

Hi, does anyone know why rawritent.exe

http://search.mirrorservice.org/search/?q=rawrite

will only accept removable media ? Is there anything
that would break this algorithm for fixed disks?

This program had been designed for the floppies only.

I don't know what is your specific problem -- so can't give the concrete
answer, but the programs for the fixed disks with the similar (not exactly
same though) functions are the cloning programs, like Norton (Symantec) Ghost,
Partition Magic, Acronis True Image, etc. Some of the hexadecimal editors can
be used in some cases as well.

I want to use it to copy a fixed partition, and I was just wondering
why is rawrite restricted to removable media, i.e. it does work
for usb disks

Then use one of the programs I mentioned already, for example -- Acronis True
Image.

Because that's the way it was written. It only handles certain types of disk
structures, and it has no concept of USB--its hard-coded to look for specific
hardware types. In a word, it's very, very obsolete.
