reinstalling ME
I have been on the phone with Dell for 2 hours getting
passed back and forth between technicians. All I am trying to do is re-install my ME. I currently have XP and I can't get used to it. I have a hard time trouble- shooting any problems when they arise. So I want to put ME back on. Does anybody out there know how to format a hard drive so that I can install ME? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! |

Please Note that if your XP system is using the NTFS filing system rather
than the FAT32 system used by Win Me you will need to use fdisk to remove the NTFS partitions and then repartition your hard disk so as to use FAT32. For details of how to fdisk and format see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 255867 - "How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a Hard Disk" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=255867) as well as the file CLEANHD.TXT which is in the Win 9x folder on the Win Me CD and also as KB271673 - "Windows Millennium Edition Cleanhd.txt File Contents" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=271673). -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP keli wrote: I have been on the phone with Dell for 2 hours getting passed back and forth between technicians. Well, here's the problem. If, during the install of XP,
you chose the NTFS file system, then you cannot reformat the hdd to FAT 16 or FAT 32. Win ME will not run on the NTFS system...About the only thing you can do is live with XP. It's really a much better os than ME...try to get used to it and you'll wind up liking it. -----Original Message----- I have been on the phone with Dell for 2 hours getting passed back and forth between technicians. I'm sorry but that's rubbish. To remove an NTFS partition use fdisk to remove the unwanted partition(s) and then recreate as FAT32. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Try to Help wrote: Well, here's the problem.
