I am getting an error on my windows applications. See below. Is there any way to get rid of it without doing a total system restore?
Thanks

You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mca...rt/stinger.exe

- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.

Use CWShredder, the removal tool:

http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...CWShredder.exe
http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip

download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to
remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

I wonder if that is why I've been getting these explorer
error messages when starting my computer and trying to
open "My Documents" or "My Computer". My daughter had
downloaded an MP3 player and along with it adware etc
which my Mcafee virus scanner picked up. To their
suggestion I disabled my System Restore to remove all the
download by uninstalling and then removing the adware.
However, I still find when I type in "msconfig" at RUN,
then go to the Startup folder that there are still
checkmarks beside an Adware called "Trickler". However I
cannot find the files on my computer and Mcafee virus scan
also shows nothing. I constantly have to reboot to finally
get Explorer to work. This happens all over again after
each shutdown. I'm at a loss as what to do. Any ideas?
Thank you,
Tina

Anti-virus programs have historically, not looked for Adware or spyware -
they are just beginning to.
You need to get a specialist program for this - Ad-Aware, from
www.lavasoftusa.com or Spybot S&D from
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download are about the best
available, and free!

Start with Ad-Aware - download it, install, update, and run it to remove
spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system. - if it finds anything, reboot and
re-run it to check that the system is clean again..

If it doesn't deal with everything, then move on to Spybot - which is
somewhat more aggressive, and can potentially cause problems if you're
uncertain what you're doing. (and creates backups for exactly that reason! -
as does Ad-Aware)

If you're still having problems, then
Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.
