cd rom drives
computer does not recognize cd drives all of a sudden.in safe mode it does
but not in normal mode. can someone please help me? thank you!! -- carl |

Misprint/typo?? Do you *really* mean :-
computer does not recognize cd drives all of a sudden in safe mode, it does ..... in normal mode. If so, the reason it doesn't recognise them in SAFE MODE is because the drivers are not loaded. They are only loaded in NORMAL MODE. (And in Real Mode DOS - using the WinMe Startup (floppy) Disk.) I believe I know what you mean about the CD drive in safe mode - Device
Manager actually lists the CD but it is not shown in My Computer....in Safe Mode CD drives are not accessible - at least they are not on my system in WinME. Try a restart, and boot up then go to the bios andcheck the autodetect for IDE devices. See if the BIOS actually recognises them. If not, there may be trouble with th cable (see that it is firmly plugged in at both the drive end and the IDE socket on the m/board.)
