"about blank"

I tried updating Windows 98 today when the screen switched
me to a web page titled "about blank"

In Yahoo.com, when I try to read my e-mail I am also
switched to a web page "about blank"

Is there anything out there that can remove this pest from
my PC? It's very frustrating to say the least.

You have the CoolWebSearch variant known as CWS.about:blank

Download and run CWShredder, the CoolWeb removal tool, available he

Once you start the app, click the FIX button.

Then, download, unzip, and run Hijack This from one of these locations:

Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the Temp folder, double-click
HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Press that, save the log somewhere you can find it (Desktop, My Documents, or
similar).
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.

In your post, please state your problem clearly and what you've done so far to fix
it.

Hijack This alone cannot fix it because there is a super-hidden file involved...you
will have to do some manual work to fix this and delete the involved files. The
folks there will tell you what to do.
