missing files

I get a black screen that says "cannot find device file
that may be needed to run win98" the registry or
SYSTEM.INIfile refers to this divice file but the divice
file no longer exists. The missing files come up as
SHLDDRV.EXE and SHLDDRV.VXD with press any key to
continue. I'm afraid to turn my PC off in case it won't
start up correctly. Could someone please help? The .INI
system file messes with my startup configurations as
well. I had had AVG which at some point reconfigured
stuff in my startup I believe.

You do not need this file. Go to Start and select Run.
Then enter SYSEDIT and OK. Access SYSTEM.INI. Find the
line that refers to this file and delete this line. Then
reboot, and the message will not display.
