USB Hard Drive Installation causes Win98SE to crash
Hi
I've just bought a Freecom Classic 160Gb USB hard drive for my Win98SE system, and I can't get it to install. When I plug in the USB cable, the system recognises new hardware and asks for drivers. This is expected behaviour according to the manual. When I install the drivers from the supplied CD, Windows crashes with a Blue Screen of Death and reports error code 0028:c1C3738A caused by VXD APIX(02) + 0000272A. I've tried using updated drivers from the Freecom website but that just produces the same result. I've emailed Freecom support, but all they've come back with is "use the drivers from the website". Other devices attached to the system include: -USB printer HP Deskjet 930C -USB leads to plug in Fuji Finepix digital camera -Origio broadband router running off internal network card -internal Zoom modem -internal SCSI card connecting to Scanmaker x6 scanner -PS2 mouse & keyboard Any thoughts and help appreciated. Regards Mike |
