Default Reg patch for U.S. Daylight Saving Time changes?

You *still* using that POS?

You just got demoted to only being 50% MVP!

Default Reg patch for U.S. Daylight Saving Time changes?

I only started out 1/3 an MVP. Here is my master post...

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=914387
How to configure daylight saving time for the United States in 2007

The time has come to follow the instructions in that article, or, much
as Terhune said...

(a) Click TZEDIT.EXE.
It opens with your time zone selected.
(b) Click the Edit button.
(c) Change the Start Day to... Second, Sunday, March.
(d) Change the Last Day to... First, Sunday, November.
(e) Click the OK button.
(f) Click the Close button.
(g) Click Start, point to Settings, point to Control Panel,
and then double-click Date/Time.
(h) Click the Time Zone tab.
(i) Select a different time zone than (the one you are set at),
and then click Apply.
(j) Click (back to the one you were set at), and then click OK.

Note Steps i and j are required for the new changes to take effect.

Do so before March 11, 2007. If you cannot get TZEdit.exe from your
personal copy of the Resource Kit, get it from...
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/services/tec...Reskit/CONFIG/
...., as Laura Fredericks did discover, after likely 1/2 ton of clicking.

Much thanks to her for the reminder about all this-- & let it be on hers
& Terhune's heads-- if time proves it all didn't quite work!

Default Reg patch for U.S. Daylight Saving Time changes?

OK, that mostly works, though the personal references are guaranteed to
bring a plethora of "Huh?" questions, s.

Might want to post it once a week. Suggested Subject line:
"Win98 Daylight Savings Time Manual Update Required"

The first paragraph might also explain that it is only applicable in the US.
and why it has to happen in the first place. Perhaps we can find a simple
site that discusses the new law?

If you cannot get TZEdit.exe from your
personal copy of the Resource Kit, get it from...
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/services/tec...Reskit/CONFIG/
..., as Laura Fredericks did discover, after likely 1/2 ton of clicking.

Much thanks to her for the reminder about all this-- & let it be on hers
& Terhune's heads-- if time proves it all didn't quite work!

Actually, found it on my Win98 CD. I was googling the topic

Lol. I came here for HELP. But in this case (old OS) I had to

Anyway, here's the two changed reg files for the Eastern Time

There are too many time zones for that to be anything but a huge

Default Reg patch for U.S. Daylight Saving Time changes? - WIN98-DST2007-eastern-us_and_canada-.zip

Creating the REG files for the affected time zones is probably OK, but if
you compare yours and PCRs results, you'll see that your REG keys contain
more information. Not sure why that is except possibly it's due to you
running different versions of Win98.

For NT-based systems (XP, anyway), the settings are the same *except* that
the Key represented in your Timezones.reg isn't in
HKEY...Windows\CurrentVersion..., it's in HKEY...WindowsNT\CurrentVersion...

Default Reg patch for U.S. Daylight Saving Time changes? - WIN98-DST2007-eastern-us_and_canada-.zip

No. Sorry. What I posted was output of InCtrl5, which only showed the
changes done to those Registry keys-- 3 values in 2 keys. We were the
same for that. Here are my full keys, & I see they are identical to
Fredericks'...

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Time
Zones\Eastern]
"Display"="(GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)"
"Dlt"="Eastern Daylight Time"
"Std"="Eastern Standard Time"
"MapID"="38,39"
"TZI"=hex:2c,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,c4,ff,ff,ff,00,0 0,0b,00,00,00,01,00,02
,00,00,\
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,02,00,02,00,00,00 ,00,00,00,00

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\TimeZoneInformation
]
"ActiveTimeBias"=hex:2c,01,00,00
"StandardName"="Eastern Standard Time"
"DaylightName"="Eastern Daylight Time"
"Bias"=hex:2c,01,00,00
"StandardBias"=hex:00,00,00,00
"DaylightBias"=hex:c4,ff,ff,ff
"StandardStart"=hex:00,00,0b,00,00,00,01,00,02,00, 00,00,00,00,00,00
"DaylightStart"=hex:00,00,03,00,00,00,02,00,02,00, 00,00,00,00,00,00
"DaylightFlag"=hex:01,00,00,00

I suppose TZEdit affected the bottom key, & it was Control Panel,
Date/Time that affected the first.

Thanks or Good Luck,

| For NT-based systems (XP, anyway), the settings are the same *except*
that

| Perhaps one brave soul here would like to play around with his

|
| Much thanks to her for the reminder about all this...
|
| Lol. I came here for HELP. But in this case (old OS) I had to

|
| Anyway, here's the two changed reg files for the Eastern Time

OK. I've compared your keys to mine now, & I see we are the same after
the change. TZEdit did some of it, & Control Panel, Date/Time, the rest.
I guess it is OK, as Terhune & that article may have said, to just
import those keys to any computer that is in the same time zone. OK,
then. OK, bye.
